Two colour prints (Copies 1 and 2) of the scene at the Hospital Corner, Drummond St. Sth and Sturt St. after the running of the last tram from Sebastopol prior to running into the depot on 19 Sept. 1971. Shows one bogie tram No. 40 (from the advertising boards) with many people at the corner, a few cars and a police car leading the tram through the people standing around. Has the liquor store on the south west corner of the intersection in the background. Tram is heavily loaded with passengers. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Saturday 18/9/1971 about the details of the last trams to run in Ballarat, and that only tramway employees will be allowed to ride back to the depot from Sturt St. Notes that the Mayors of Ballarat and Sebastopol will drive the trams for part of their runs in the municipalities. Quotes tramway superintendent Mr. L. J. Denmead. Gives times the last trams were time to leave the Lydiard St North terminals, that 40 is to be the last tram, that it was to be driven by Mr. L. Walker with Mr. H. Knight as conductor. Ballarat Mayor, Cr. Chisholm was to receive the last tram at the depot. Rod Atkins advised 11/10/2020: "The bus body is one of the four James Motors of South Melbourne body's first fitted to the group of 12 Thornycroft "J" chassis in 1924-1925 numbered 13 to 24. Then in 1929 they were all transferred to the ADC chassis but four were retained in late thirties to early forties for possible further use. The four bodies were then fitted to the new International K6 chassis in 1943. The vehicle numbers were 19 to 308 16 to 309 24 to 311 and 18 to 312. They were finally disposed of in 1949." The Tawonga Primary School celebrated its centenary with a program including a fete, sports, family dance and combined church service over the weekend of the 25th - 26th Oct. 1980. The newspaper covers the Alpine Shire and included further articles that would interest visitors to the centenary.Tawonga School was one of the earliest schools in the Kiewa Valley supplying an education for the children of the local farming community. The Bogong Hotel at Tawonga, the Tawonga Butter Factory and the town of Mt Beauty articles were printed providing up to date historical information on prime locations nearby. Of interest as the Hotel has burnt down and the Butter factory no longer exists.
