On Saturday 13 May 2000, Victorian Mounted Rifles Squadron, 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse Regiment departed Buna Barracks Albury and relocated to its new depot at Building 105 North Bandiana. The occasion was marked by a parade through the main streets of Albury and Wodonga. The mayor of Albury, Councillor Les Langford, farewelled the regiment and the mayor of Wodonga, Councillor Graham Crapp, welcomed the regiment to Wodonga. At Building 105, the Area Commander, Colonel Chris Anstey, welcomed the regiment and handed over the building to Lieutenant Colonel Michael Annett, Commanding Officer 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse. Daylight O'Day swims the river alone and, instead of going straight back to Gooloora, rides up-river a little to call at O'Hara's slab homestead where he is given a very warm welcome by young Erin O'Hara. Supporters of the Mission often made their homes and gardens available as venue for Christmas Boxing day and Cup day events or picnics. On Boxing Day 1920 around 100 men were welcomed by Mr and Mrs Duckett on the grounds of the home Riversdale. The third Earl of Stradbroke was Governor of Victoria from 24 February 1921 to 7 April 1926. The ticket was to an event at St Kilda Pier to welcome him and his wife upon their arrival in Victoria. With the visit of the American Fleet to Melbourne in early September 1908, volunteers from the the Automobile Club of Victoria took 100 officers on an excursion to the Black Spur past Yarra Glen on the 4th September 1908. (The area we know today as the Yarra Valley). The convoy travelled through Eltham, Research and Kangaroo Ground, where a group of women gathered to wave to them. This was one of the first motor vehicles to pass through Research. The visit of the American Fleet was a big deal at the time. A Program of activites was compiled. City buidlings were illuminated, a State reception was given and a concert was held. The Federal Parliament sat in Melbourne at that time. This photo was made using a home-made camera constructed by the photographer Tom Prior (brother of Mrs E.R. Reynolds). She welcomed large groups of seamen (up to 125) for Boxing Day at least on three consecutive years in 1906, 1907, 1908. The photograph was taken some time after the end of World War 1. It was a Welcome Home reception for those men who had enlisted to fight in World War 1 and were lucky to return home. The reception took place in the Sunbury Fire Station which was located in Evans Street.
