In 1949, the site was taken over by Yakka, where work clothes were made. ...The carpark is in Barkly Street, behind the O'Shanassy Shopping strip. In the 1940s-1950s, a former textile factory occupied the site. The factory was housed in an ex-army hut and many of Sunbury's women were employed there. From 1946 - 48, the business was known as Angee Clothing, which produced gloves, slippers and dressing gowns. In 1949, the site was taken over by Yakka, where work clothes were made. As the business expanded it moved to Broadmeadows in a large modern factory.While the factory was in Sunbury, it provided employment for a lot of the local women.A coloured photograph of an off-street carpark behind a shopping complex. The Mont Albert railway crossing was removed in early 2023 by the Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA). The Surrey Hills railway crossing was removed at the same time. Keith Glover of television Channel 2 is at the right of the photo and plays the father in the documentary. His son is played by David Edwards. It is stapled on the spine in 2 places and consists of 12 pages. ...Surrey Panels was started by Maurice Dalzell (Maurie) Costello (1918-2000) in 1948, soon after the first Holden was released. Maurie later brought his sons Alan, Robert and Brian into the business. F H Stevens Motors started in North Balwyn at a similar time and in 1982 was taken over by the Costello brothers, with Robert as General Manager. Members of the Costello family have been around the Surrey Hills area for many decades. Maurie’s parents Thomas Maurice and Mabel Isabel Costello lived at 43 Box Hill Crescent, Mont Albert North. Thomas was a cattle dealer and related to the Costellos of Costello’s Jersey Dairy (demolished) in Mont Albert Road, Balwyn. Prior to starting the business Maurie is listed as a market gardener living with his parents in Box Hill Crescent. He married Mavis Jean Guillerme in 1942. Both he and Lady Dunrossil interacted with the children, who appear overawed by their visitors and the fact that they were being filmed. There are also Legatees present. The girls wear a light coloured uniform with a Legacy logo embroidered onto the left hand side of the chest. The boys wear a shirt, tie and pullover. His brief year in office as Governor General ended when he passed away suddenly 3 Feb 1961. According to an article in Trove, he toured Gippsland in August 1960 and attended a school and a festival, the proceeds of the festival was donated to Legacy and other charities. This film has been digitised to preserve its content.
