Document - Calendar, AETA 2002 featuring M>Tram and Yarra trams B2 class trams, 2002
The AETA published calendars on an annual basis through to 2005, promoting electric transport in Public Transport. The photo shows the two different liveries adopted by the Franchised operators M>Tram and Yarra trams when the system was split into two different companies. Features B2 class trams 2078 and 2021. The hand written note, dated 28-11-2005 by Keith Kings was with the calendar and records that Ken Craven was not able to arrange production for a 2006 calendar. Yields information about the AETA promotional activities.Australian Electric Traction Association (AETA) Calendar for 2002, featuring a photo by Ian Thiele of M>Tram and Yarra Trams B2 class trams passing each other in Brunswick St Fitzroy. Notes names of various legal figures ...Letter, Set of two letters, carbon copy, typed by Mr Lewis Russell to Mr. R. A. Spencer while on tour with Mr Bell in 1938. See Reg Item 934 for the report. The two letters give the nitty gritty of the going-on's at the time in the MMTB. .1 - three quarto sheets, stapled in the top left hand corner, dated Monday 2 May, outlining activities at home. The main point is a O'Meara - Eakins appeal which involved extensive legal advice about titles, positions etc. Mr O'Meara title noted as chief draftsman. Notes names of various legal figures such as Mr. Herring KC. Also notes Cr. Gray, Cr. Gorman, Mr. Bell (Jnr?), Mr Cass. Appears that Mr. McGlashan "has been dipping his beak into the flowing bowl" and had been dismissed. Appears he was collecting the fees from the Wattle Park Golf course. Letter continuation of 4 May - appeals still going on, the death of Mr Monsbourgh and dismissal of Mr. Ellis and a 3rd sheet dated 9th May. Reports on drawing up a lease for a Mr. Better, snow and some personal family matters? .2 - letter dated 3/8/1938 Has notes re Mr O'Connor and the benefit society, retiring gratuity, costs, Mr Guice, Mr Richardson. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, sketches of various types of controllers, braking system description, emergency braking, safety cars, manual lap valves, the air system, hand braking, lighting system and general duties, and what to do if the tram breaks down. On pages 44 to 48 - a long list of don'ts, notes regarding the traffic code and reference index for defects. Pages 1 and 2 have been removed along a perforated line - would have been an acknowledgement sheet. Book has No. 2154 on top of page 3.Demonstrates the methods that the MMTB used to train drivers and remind them of their duties and responsibilites. Donor advised that the book belong to a Mr Kennewell of Preston Depot.Book - 52 pages, side stapled book within grey Rexine covers. Provides the basis for segregating road traffic from tram lines at intersections and along roadways and road markings applied.Yields information about the introduction of Fairways into Melbourne tramway streets during 1983, the first legal segregation of trams from road traffic.Set of two pamphlets regarding Tram Fairways. .1 - Three-section vertical fold-out pamphlet titled "How to drive the Fairway" printed on gloss paper showing the fairway system and how its works with the various signs in a cartoon manner. Notes the Fairway system was set up in 1983 and the basis of it. Has the VicRoads logos, name, and "Victoria Growing together? logos. .2 - Three-section, horizontal format pamphlet on plain paper, titled "Now there's a better way", giving details of the system, showing drawings and how they work at intersections. Issued by the Road Traffic Authority, has the RTA logo. .3 - Newspaper cutting, titled "The old way, the Fairway" giving advanced notice of the introduction of the Fairway system and the roads impacted. Map showing the Melbourne cable tram system, with a list of opening and closing dates for the various lines, opened by the Melbourne Tramways Trust. Shows engine houses and car houses (or depots), location names, railways, and a scale. Includes notes on other dates tracks were changed and the Northcote to Clifton Hill line. Set of two photographs, possibly during a Footscray Technical College tour in July 1974. Such tours were arranged by Bill Kingsley. 1 - L 102 at Brunswick Depot.
