Invitation to the official opening of an extension to the St Kilda Public Library by the Victorian Minister for the Arts, the Hon Haddon Storey QC MLC, on 19 December 1993. The floor area of the library was enlarged to include a new entry, ramp, and a pedestrian thoroughfare extending between Carlisle and Duke streets. The original entry was was blocked and a bluestone screen wall, evoking the form of an open book, was introduced to the west of new entry. Invitation to the 'arrival' of the Hotel St Moritz at 14-15 The Esplanade, St Kilda, on 10 October 1991. The hotel was built on the site of the former St Moritz ice rink. The Hotel St Moritz became Novotel Bayside in 1993 and The Novotel St Kilda in 1999. Ephemera - BEEHIVE BOX
The Original Beehive store dates from the early tent days of the gold rush. A two story building was erected in 1864, which included mining exchange offices on the upper floor. The building burnt down in 1871. The current building, designed by Charles Webb, was built in 1872, Allens Walk shopping arcade on the ground floor runs between Pall Mall and Hargreaves St. with offices on the first and second floors. Robert Oswald Henderson was the managing proprietor of the Beehive Stores. Born on the 27th of March 1875, he was the second son of Thomas Hope and Marion Henderson. Thomas Hope Henderson was formerly part owner of the Beehive store, in the firm of Henderson and Goodisson. After the death of his father in 1899, Robert Oswald Henderson assisted Mr. J. R. Goodisson in the management of the Beehive. The Stores passed into the ownership of the Henderson family after the retirement of Mr Goodisson and Robert Oswald Henderson was appointed managing proprietor. A flattened cardboard box in two pieces that would have measured 46 by 31 by 10 centimetres. Printed on the box in black ink. R.O. HENDERSON PTY. LTD. Two vertical decorative strips, an image of the Beehive building Phones: 31 & 32 PALL MALL, through to HARGEAVES ST., BENDIGO There is a 14 by 11 centimetre white sticker with green printing on it which includes the company name and other information. See also item 7851 for a momento featuring his work.Single sheet colour calendar for 1983, published by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), successors to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. Large portion of the calendar features the changeover from the MMTB to the MTA - eg green colours replacing the orange. Also on the base of the cartoon by Augustine is a number of caricatures of well known MMTB/MTA personnel. Program of an evening to celebrate the centenary of the Loyal Balaclava Prince of Wales Lodge No. 4933, of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (MUIOOF) Victoria, on 10 April 1961. MUIOOF originated in Manchester, England and was established in Melbourne in 1840. By the end of the century, it had an extensive network of lodges throughout Victoria. Flyer for a free exhibition about St Kilda, presented by the Historical Society of St. Kilda at 'Cloyne Court' 12 Chapel Street St Kilda, on 14-15 June 1975. Cloyne was constructed in 1887 for Sir John Madden, a Melbourne barrister, who became Chief Justice in 1893 and Lieutenant-Governor in 1899. It was named after his birthplace in County Cork, Ireland.
