The letters of the completed banner were made by different churches within in the presbytery of Gippsland and spell a sentence, presumably, "BUILD YOUR CHURCH LORD!" Orbost was one of the churches that had the finished banner on display. 24 small banners with tabs at the top of each for hanging on a rod. 19 have large blue letters appliqued on them. Twenty two of the banners are roughly square and two are smaller and oblong. Three have no letters and are used as spacers in the four word sentence that the letters make. The King's Colour was presented to 8th Indi Light Horse in 1920 for service in the Great War. It, together with the 1904 Colour, was laid up in the Anglican Church Benalla. In 1976 both colours were found in a cupboard at the church. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regiment arranged for a case for the colours to be mounted on the wall at the church. In the early eighties it became necessary to remove the case to allow building work at the church and the case and colours were donated to the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection.Representative example of a King's Colour dating from 1920 presented to a Light Horse Regiment with a close connection to regional Victoria. This item was donated to Wodonga Historical Society by the artist, Betty L. Barberis. Betty Barberis nee Barton was one of 12 children born to Roderick Barton and Myrtle Ann Hore of Gundowring in the Kiewa Valley. She was born in 1927 and attended Upper Gundowring Primary School. Betty was encouraged to enter a project for the "Young Farmers" by illustrating a book. She won first prize for Victoria and the book was exhibited at the Royal Melbourne Show. This resulted in Betty attaining a Manual Art Teacher's Studentship which she completed at Wangaratta Technical School. Here she learned many new skills ranging from garment design to ceramics. She also attended Melbourne Teachers College. Betty created many decorative banners, the first being for the Australian section of the World Scout Jamboree in 1948. Over her long career she was to create many other banners and commissioned work for significant organisations and institutions . Betty’s great body of work included landscapes, millinery, ceramics, and a bronze sculpture of her husband Vern Barberis who was a fellow schoolteacher and represented Australia as a weightlifter, winning a bronze medal at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. She also illustrated several books and had exhibitions in many galleries including in Albury. Betty passed away at The Grange, Wodonga on 26 November 2013. The 1981 Rotary International Pacific Region Conference was held in the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, between 26 and 29 November 1981. More than 5,000 Rotarians from around the Pacific attended the conference in Melbourne to discuss 'The Future of the Pacific Region'. Speakers included the Honourable Malcolm Fraser, Rotary International President Stan McCaffrey, President Elect Horoji Mukasa, Ranald McDonald, representing the media, Sir Ian McLennan, representing industry, Japanese former Ambassador Nobuhiko Ushiba and Philippines Deputy Consul General Mrs Minerva Falcon, both representing diplomatic services, as well as other Rotarians. A limited number of plaques were produced from quality imported porcelain.This item represents a major event held in Melbourne for Rotary International and is also the work of a prominent artist from the Wodonga district.2 ceramic plaques designed by Betty Barberis for the emblem of the 198T Rotary International Pacific Region Conference held in Melbourne in 1981. The flag of Sardinia was adopted as the official flag of the newly formed Kingdom of Italy in 1861. The flag incorporates the armorial bearings of the Royal House of Savoy, the family who ruled Italy until it voted to become a republic in 1948. Civil flag of the Kingdom of Italy featuring three vertical panels of green (hoist) white and red cotton, sewn together. Sewn into each side of the centre (white) panel is a representation of the coat of arms of the House of Savoy - a blue-bordered red square, quartered by a white cross. This flag would later become the flag of the Kingdom of Italy, and the tricolor without the Savoyard escutcheon remains the flag of Italy. The exact date of the creation of this flag is uncertain, however as it was in use in Italy until the formal establishment of the Italian Republic, it may have been made between 1848 and 1946. This particular flag was brought back at the conclusion of WWII and donated to the Terang RSL Sub-branch.The Civil flag of the Kingdom of Italy is comprised of a red, white and green vertical cotton panels, which have been stitched together by cotton. Each panel is approximately 915 cm wide by 1.610 metres high. The centre panel has an appliquéd Savoy shield, with a centred white cross on red background, surrounded by a blue shield shaped border.

The function took place at the Sunbury State School in 1916. As many of the town's menfolk were away fighting in the First World War and the flags flying were of allied countries, the function was most likely held to raise funds for the war effort. These banners had been purchased in China by a social envoy from Beechworth then presented to the Chinese community during the Beechworth Fine Arts Exhibition in May of that same year, by Donald Fiddes, President of the Ovens District Hospital. The Burke Museum's Chinese Collection presents the history of Chinese settlement in Beechworth from 1856 and its involvement in local community affairs in the second half of the 19th century. In settling in the area they formed their own community with distinctive Chinese cultural traditions, forming their own 'camps' with laid out streets, housing a Temple, Chinese Theatre and restaurants, hotels, stores, gambling houses and dwellings. Members of the Chinese community took an active interest in town affairs and were generous donors to the appeal to build the Ovens District Hospital in 1856/7. The vibrant colours and dynamic graphics of the silk embroidered Chinese banners were a highlight of Beechworth Charitable processions that took place in the main street. Two of the Chinese banners were conserved for the Burke Museum in 2006 by Carol Campbell of Phoenix Conservation Services with funding from Victoria’s Heritage Grants. In 2015, with the enormous support of the Copland Foundation and fundraising activities by the Friends of the Bur Museum Committee, conservation of the third banner was undertaken by Artlab Australia in Adelaide.The banners display traditional Chinese textile techniques and are visually beautiful and very rare and are considered of local and national significance, with the potential to be deemed internationally significant.Multi panelled banner with embroidery and applied design motifs on front. Quite possibly this event was held at the North Melbourne Ragged Boys' Home, so there is every possibility the members of the home produced the serviette.
