Cigarette case probably made from oval shaped Aluminium tube (or similar aircraft construction material). The case has a removable lid which slides over an inner tube (see 'photos). The oval shaped ends of the case are made from a perspex (?) material or similar. The perspex piece fitted into the lid has four Japanese (?) characters marked in red. Dark blue coloured embroidered satin like cloth with a white satin border on all four sides. Embroidered with the British flag, the British Military Police badge, the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces badge, and a scene depicting Mount Fuji and cherry blossom in thread of various colours. There is also an embroidered inscription. This rectangular cloth is a souvenir of the post World War 2 occupation of Japan and is dated 1947.The embroidered inscription is "To My Darling Mother From Peter Japan 1947" -

During World War II the Japanese Government printed currency notes, some denominated in the Australian pound, for use in Pacific countries intended for occupation. One shilling notes are typical of the occupation currency used in captured parts of Papua New Guinea during the War. Japanese printed bank notes. Three five cent notes ; one one shilling note and two five yuan notes.
