Photograph - Kangaroo Flat Red Cross Collection. Photo of seven Ladies Members 1961
On 13/8/1914 Red Cross was set up in Victoria as a branch of the British Red Cross. This coincided with the outbreak of WW1. Its initial remit was to supply comforts packages for soldiers. This expanded to the Voluntary Aid Detachments' (VAD) who cared for sick and wounded soldiers in hospitals or on transport ships. In 1929 the Red Cross Blood transfusion Service began. After WW11 it continued to expand into all domestic and overseas humanitarian operations. The Kangaroo Flat group was first mentioned in the newspapers in August 1915.Black and white rectangle photograph. Edges have been hand cut. Robin Kelly was born Robin Vandersluys in Mary Street, Kew. As a child, she sang in backyard concerts run with her brother, Leslie. The family moved to Deepdene in 1949 and Robin joined church and school choirs. Later she was to study classical singing with Stella Power, modern singing with Jack White, TV Presentation with Natalie Raine of Crawford Productions and acting/singing with Jessie Matthews. Following her victory in a talent quest at the Orama Ballroom, she was invited to join the Orama Big Band with singers Harry Cox and Arlene Forrest. She also sang with the Kerm Jones Jazz Band at Power House and with Frank Johnson's Jazz Band at Jazz Junction. Robin became resident band vocalist at the historic Federal Hotel in Collins Street with the Rudi Laquer Trio. She also sang at The Savoy Plaza with the George Cadman Trio. A year later she became resident vocalist at the Ress Oriental Hotel with the Lennie Holmes Trio. Later, Robin married pianist Peter Jones, singing under the name 'Robin Vanser' in clubs in Sydney and regional New South Wales. She was booked for a Vietnam War tour and also sang in Tahiti. Returning to Melbourne, her agent booked her to appear in shows in Tasmania including West Point Casino and Melbourne country venues. Another agent, John Bishop, booked her to do floor shows in Melbourne, including Xmas Seasons at the Hampton Hotel where she entertained audiences with her comedy and audience participation routines. In 1971, Robin Kelly retired to run her Robin Hood Antiques business in Canterbury, during which time she was married to tenor Glenn Kelly. Later she joined Sing Australia Camberwell Choir, performing as a soloist at their Melbourne Town Hall Concert. The Vandersluys-Kelly Collection of photographs, costumes and musical performance memorabilia was donated to the Kew Historical Society by Robin Denise Kelly in 2018. The collection is an important record of stage and recorded performances in Australia in the second half of the 20th century. This new nationally-focused and artistically significant collection augments and contextualises the local performing arts materials in our collection. Blue brocade, halter neck, full-length sheath, with two blue chiffon drops from back to floor. The dress was worn by Robin Vanser (aka Robin Kelly nee Vandersluys) in live performances in the 1960s, including on the Don Lane Show, and in Sydney in 1966 in a program that included Johnny Ray.performing arts - australia - 1960s, robin vanser, performance costumes, floor show dresses -

Photograph, late 1960s
In the late 1960s St. Mary's Anglican Church was dismantled from its Oaklands Road site and rebuilt on land in Bulla township adjacent to the old shire offices. It was moved because of the interference it would create for aircraft landing in the new Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine. The site has been left timbered because some of the district's early settlers were buried in the church yard before the Bulla Cemetery was established.A black and white photograph of the site of the former St. Mary's Anglican Church at Oaklands Road. Shield, Independent order of Oddfellows, 1960s
This shield was a trophy awarded to the lodges of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in the 1960s. The first Warrnambool Lodge of the I.O.O.F. was established in 1860 (Loyal Victorian Lodge) and the Oddfellows Hall in Koroit Street Warrnambool was opened in 1869. One winner of the shield, apart from the Loyal Warrnambool Lodge, was the Loyal Aurora Lodge and the only reference found to a lodge of this name was based in North Melbourne. No information has been found on Frank D. Grayham. This shield is of interest as a trophy given by the Independent Order of Oddfellows in the 1960s. The I.O.O.F. in Warrnambool has been of historical importance in the social and business spheres in the city. This is a wooden shield with a central metal plaque attached and six other smaller metal plaques. The central plaque has an ornamental edging and the plaques are attached with metal pins. Four of the plaques have inscriptions. Both the wooden section and the plaques are much worn and scratched. Central Plaque: ‘W.D.C (or G) I.O.O.F. Lodges Installation of Officers Competition Frank D. Jug, 'Lady Bay' transfer, 1960s
This is a souvenir jug made for the local tourist trade in the 1960s. The jug has an image of Lady Bay, Warrnambool. The official name of Lady Bay is Warrnambool Bay. The jug was made by Westminster Fine China Australia, a firm established in 1954 by the cutlery and silverware firm of Stanley Rogers and Sons of Melbourne. Westminster China was fist established in Cheltenham in Melbourne and after 1977 it was operating in Sandringham, Victoria. It was still operating in the 1990s and produced mainly souvenir and giftware. This jug is retained because it is a good example of the souvenir items offered to local tourists in the 1960s. This is a small white china jug with a gold strip down the handle and a gold rim around the opening and the lip. On the side of the jug is a multi-coloured image of the lower lighthouse and Lady Bay, Warrnambool. Equipment - Camera Housing, Ikelite Underwater Systems, Late 1960s to early 1970s
This underwater SLR camera housing was made to hold a standard SLR camera and keep it watertight for underwater photography up to 300 feet in depth. Ikelite continues to be a leading manufacturer in the underwater photographic industry. The business began in the early 1960s when diver Ike Brigham invented a waterproof seal for his underwater flashlights. The name IKELITE was trademarked in 1962. In the late 1960s, Ike developed camera housing kits that were clear and enabled access to change a roll of film. He was the first to use lid-snap closures on an underwater housing. The history of underwater photography began with the first protective camera box for underwater photography was made in 1856. In 1914 the first underwater video footage was taken. Colour underwater photography was first shot in 1926. In 1950 the first commercially available underwater camera housing, the "Tarzan" was designed by Henry Broussard, an underwater photographer, for his own camera. It was produced by the French company Beauchat. In 1957 the revolutionary underwater camera was invented by Jaques-Yves Cousteau and Jean de Wouters. The new amphibious "Calypso" changed the nature of underwater photography. This underwater camera housing is significant for its purpose of underwater photography. Camera housings such as this were used to record the position and layout of shipwrecks along coast of the Great Ocean Road. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village has underwater footage of dives that show the now protected shipwrecks.Underwater camera housing, Ikelite brand SLR camera housing, for up to 300 feet depth. nscriptions embossed on the back. Approximately 200 pre-1960s style houses that were left in Eltham between Main Road and east to Bible Street, between Cecil Street to the north and south to Dalton Street were photographed in late 1999. Headwear - Faux Fur Hat, 1960s
Imitation fur products were initially popular due to their relative cheapness. As the 1960s progressed, faux fur became more popular due to social uneasiness about the wildlife and farmed fur trade. Whereas real fur hats might be seen as matronly, smart, light and bright, clearly fake fur hats were designed for a younger market, and proved more suitable to the light weight fabrics of dresses and coats that became fashionable in Australia in the 1950s.The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. Many of these items were purchased or handmade in Victoria; some locally in Kew. The extensive hat collection comprises items dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. Most of the hats in the collection were created by milliners for women. There are however a number of early and important men’s hats in the collection. The headwear collection is particularly significant in that it includes the work of notable Australian and international milliners.Faux ermine black and white woman’s hat.Nilheadwear, women's hats, hats - 1960s, fashion accessories, faux fur -

Badge - A.N.A. Badge, 1960s
This badge would have been worn by an A N A (Australian Natives' Association) member in the 1960s or 1970s. The Australian Natives' Association was a benefit association originally founded in 1871 for Australian-born white males. It was historically an influential organization, being a prominent supporter of the White Australia Policy and a campaigner for Federation. It amalgamated with Manchester Unity in 1990 to form the association, Australia Unity. The Warrnambool branch of the Australian Natives' Association, Branch Number 100, was founded in 1889 and was a prominent group in that town/city for many years. The original owner of this badge is unknown but it is retained as a memento of the A.N.A., an important group in Warrnambool for over 100 years. This is a metal badge in the shape of a stylized map of Australia with gold-coloured edgiing. It has a yellow enamel front surface with lettering in gold and black. The back has a metal pin for attachment to a lapel or other item of clothing. A N A australian natives' association, warrnambool history -

Headwear - Lady's hat and hat shapes, 1960s
These items came from the Godfrey family who lived in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. The hat was bought and worn by Barbara Phipps (nee Godfrey) some time in the 1960s. It was bought from the department store of Cramond and Dickson, a prominent and important business in Warrnambool from 1855 to 1973. The two felt hat shapes were bought in Italy during World War Two by Jim Godfrey and given to his wife Joy. They were never made into hats to wear but remain in their original state. These items are of interest because they are connected to a 20th century Warrnambool family and because they are good examples of women's fashions of the past..1 A beige=coloured lady's felt hat with a slight fold in the crown and with a strip of felt around the outside of the crown ending in a single knot.
