This small metal plane was manufactured in 1909 by Spiers-Stewart, Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland. Stewart Spiers began making planes in Ayr in around 1840. The business continued successfully as a small operation until the mid-1930s.This plane is an example of tools made overseas and used in the 1900's. Box plane; hand operated small metal plane with round wooden knob. Plane has separate blade and blade cap. Inscription on blade cap is indecipherable. This type of forceps was invented by Italian surgeon Paolo Assalini (1759-1840). Obstetrical forceps gripped a baby’s head during difficult childbirths. Assalini’s design was immediately popular and was manufactured until the 1930s. (Wellcome Collection) Set of Assalini style forceps. Consists of two forcep blades made of plated metal. The middle section of each blade is crosshatched to allow for grip, and each blade ends in a round hook that curves inwards. One blade features a metal tab, and the other a slot, on the inner edge of the round hook that allows the blades to fasten together. There are two handwritten tags attached to the forceps. The first reads 'ASSALINI'S FORCEPS/ P/B I.B.S.T./Made by/ A.J.TAYLOR'. The second tag reads 'MADE BY/ A.J/TAYLOR/No. 3' on one side, and 'H.A./TAYLOR & SONS/(SURGICAL)/PTY LTD' on the other side. forceps, obstetric

The photograph was taken after one of the foot races at an Ithacan Philanthropic Society's annual picnic which took place in the 1920s-1930s. Since the first picnic was organised it is still a popular social event on the club's calendar. A black and white photograph of eleven men standing in front of a grand stand at a sports ground. A man in a suit is congratulating another man who has completed a race. The man standing on the extreme right of the line is holding a little girl and four boys are sitting cross-legged on the ground in front of the men.

Although undated, this plan is probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Around this time Port Melbourne Council were looking to built a basketball court in Lagoon reserve, and shelters and a senior citizen's clubhouse in Edwards Park. PMHPS does to believe the basketball court shown in the plan was built but the Port Melbourne Senior Citizens and Trugo Club is at the location shown on the plan. A shelter is in a similar location to the one on the plan. A children's playground existed in that location shown in a photograph from the 1930s. Collingwood Technical School trained apprentices in many trades. CTS was also invlved in Training Schemes during the late 1930s and during World War II. These photographs depict some of the machines and machine parts built in class. These are high quality professional photographs taken circa 1940-1943. These strong riveted and sealed iron boxes were made in England in the 1930s to ensure overseas cargoes such as china, pottery, fabrics, tea and sugar were not damaged by sea water. Many people used their spice grinders or a mortar and pestle to grind the roasted beans into a powder. Japy Freres & Co were mostly known as watch and clock movement makers, they also manufactured coffee grinders. The company ceased in the 1930s. A square wooden and metal antique hand operated French coffee grinder mill, manufactured by Japy Freres & Co (Beaucourt Paris, France). The grinder has a wooden body and an iron lid and mechanism with a metal turning handle and knob. The metal top is attached by screws. It has a broken brass knob on the pull out wooden drawer below. The moveable lid allows the beans to be poured into the funnel to be ground by the internal mechanism.'Japy Freres & Co B.E. The children were photographed at an Ithacan picnic which was held at one of the racecourses in the Melbourne area in the 1930s. The annual Ithacan picnic is one of the most enduring events for the Ithacan community of Melbourne where generations of families gather to reconnect with heritage. The children photographed were all second generation Australian born children with Ithacan born parent/s. Plates such as this were a souvenir of a trip or holiday. Greensborough was a popular picnic destination in the mid 20th Century and this style of souvenir would have been a popular purchase. This is a souvenir which would have been mass-produced for tourists with the wording on the boomerang added to suit each different town or place. This type of souvenir was popular in Australia in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. This item came from a Hamilton antique shop.This item is of some minor interest as it demonstrates what tourists were buying in the 1940s. The use of the boomerang would indicate that overseas and local buyers would be attracted by what was seen as a typical Australian symbol. The size of the item would attract those travelling with limited luggage space. Cycling shoes first appear in the 1880s and progressively became more sophisticated. Cleats first appear on cycling shoes in the late 1930s - before this toe cages and straps were used. The cleat design on these shoes was commonly used from the 1970s. Detto Pietro cycling shoes were probably the most commonly used cycling shoes in the 1970s and early 1980s.Black leather cycling shoes with lace and slotted cleats.
