This Reunion was held at York on Lilydale, Lilydale, Victoria on March 27 2010, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the school commencing in February 1960 in the newly-completed building as a co-educational campus. Prior to that it had operated on two separate, temporary campuses until the new school was ready: - at Ferntree Gully Technical School in 1958 for 100 Form 1 boys, then the following year in spare rooms at Lilydale State School for 200 Form 1 and 2 boys - at Box Hill Girls' Technical School in 1959 for 100 Form 1 girls The Reunion was organised by Joan Pickford, helped by several other past students. Joan worked exceptionally hard to organise the reunion and the materials displayed on the night. The beautiful RTS banner that we all walked past in the school's main corridor all those years ago, was there in all its glory - the only RTS relic that wasn't showing its age on the night. It was a great event and well-attended. The noise of people chatting and swapping stories was deafening. Some of the 1958-59 original students, and teachers from the1960s onwards were there. People brought along their photos and memorabilia. Some wore their ties and badges which still fitted after all those years. One former prefect wore his old blazer, which must have shrunk in the wardrobe but reminded many of us of those carefree times at school.. Best of all was the re-kindling of memories, and renewing and consolidation of friendships started at the school all those years ago. Newspaper clippings of 'Chemistry Teacher dies', Mr Richard Gaston Walker, died 14/01/?? A chemistry instructor, 50 years of teaching, he was known world wide, during WW1, he was given an important post in England handling chemistry projects in the war effort. On his return to Australia, he became attached to the Bendigo Technical College,(known as the School of Mines) for more than 40 years. One consists of photographs of the progressive building and the second consists of photographs of the Official Opening of the Otter Street Campus on Thursday September 17th 1981 at 2pm by His Excellency The Honourable Sir Henry Winneke, Governor of Victoria. Black and white photographs of the Farewell to Alex Cowmeadow on 10 October 1961. On the reverse of two photos is written '10/10/61 A. Cowmeadow Farewell'. Another photo has on reverse a handwritten note 'Dear Alex / In / memory of happy / days at Collingwood. / Seasons greetings / to Mrs Cowmeadow. / 'Dick'.' Alex Cowmeadow started at Collingwood as a teacher of carpentry and cabinet making in 1927 and stayed there for 34 years until his retirement in 1961 when he was head of the Cabinetmaking and Chair and Couch Making Departments. Besides his trade teaching activity, Alex was involved in the sporting activities of the school and also organised interchange visits between students of Collingwood and Goodwood Technical School in South Australia. After his death in 1970 it was discovered that he had left his property for the benefit of Collingwood Technical School. This generous gesture enabled the development of a much better school camp at Camp Westlake in Buxton, where two wings of the camp were named after Alex and his wife Doris Cowmeadow – reminders to the students of the generosity of their former teacher. This medal was presented to 'C.T.S. Teams Race 1939 A.Winn' by Collingwood Harriers. Arthur Winn was a student at Collingwood Technical School in 1939. He may have entered singularly or there may have been a Collingwood Technical School team or teams participating.When he won the medal, it was displayed at the school for a short time as an acknowledgement of his participation. When he took the medal home, his mother pinned it into the little Dunklings box, and it was kept in the box.This medal has social and historical significance. It is significant because it documents the participation of a Collingwood Technical School student in a Collingwood Harriers Teams Race in 1939. He may have entered singularly or there may have been a Collingwood Technical School team or teams participating. The logos on the breast pocket of these two blazers is CTS for Collingwood Technical School which dates from 1912 to 1969. From 1970 CTS changed its name to Collingwood Technical College.Two Collingwood Technical School blazers. One has an epaulette on each shoulder with two gold stripes on each, and has a manufacturer's label from 'waldron's / SCHOOLWEAR' and is a size 13. The second blazer has a Form Captain badge and an SRC (Student Representative Committee) badge on the lapel, and has a manufacturer's label 'School Master / by kingswear' and is a size 17.
