Uniform, Girl Guide uniform, circa 1952-1953
This uniform was worn by Sandra "Sally" Allmand circa 1953-57 as a member of the 3rd St Andrews Girl Guides company in Brighton. Sally Allmand went on to serve on the Brighton Council from 1977 to 1983 and was mayor in 1981.1950s Girl Guides uniform consisting of a dress, belt and beret. Blue cotton dress with long sleeves and high collared neck. Various patches sewn onto sleeves and front breast. Three front pockets fastening with black plastic buttons featuring Girl Guides trefoil logo. Breast pocket has two vertical white stripes. Brown leather belt with silver metal buckle with embossed Girl Guides logo and the text "Girl Guides Association / Be Prepared". Navy blue felt beret with two sewn-on patches. Set of five colour slides, white/red cardboard, Duplicates by Pacific Film Laboratories of tram 912 in the City area testing clearances around safety zones, as part of the development of the Z class tram. Done on a Sunday morning. .1 - Bourke St showing the various equipment or protrusions attached to the tram in order to test clearances to safety zones at crossings. .2 - about to travel through a crossover. .3 - using the Queen or William St crossover. Antonio Patrick (Tony) Saligari served during World War Two (V235078), enlisting at Castlemaine on 13 July 1941. He served with the 14th Australian Armoured Regiment. He was born on 28 February 1912 at Campbelltown, Victoria. He was discharged from the Experimental and Testing Section, Monegeeta.Members of the 14th Australian Armoured Regiment. The Porton resuscitator was devised in 1951 at the British Chemical Defence Experimental Establishment in Porton, Sailsbury, as a bellows-valve-mask resuscitator. Extensive testing was undertaken over eight years, with the device being successfully used for air transport of polio patients, for emergency resuscitation in hospital wards, and by hospital orderlies.Black rubber mask attached to a black concentina bag with a round metal filter at the end. The van was last registered in 1948, and forgotten when the factory began building Sabre jets. The van spent a number of years in Sir Lawrence's garage. It was rescued from local scrap metal dealers by Rosebus car dealer Barry Patterson.Newspaper article about Deliverette van which had a collapsible drivers seat instead of standing room only driving. The parcel van was designed and built by Sir Lawrence Hartnell in the early 1940s at the Commonwealth Aircraft Factory. Canoeing on the River Yarra at Melbourne was an important and widespread recreational pursuit for Melbournians, especially in the first half of the twentieth century. The Victorian Canoe Club was formed in 1912 at a meeting in Melbourne and its first committee elected in the same year. Records indicate that the Club continued into at least the 1950s .The album has historic and social significance as a record of recreational activities (as well as canoe making) in the early years of the twentieth century. It has local significance as the site of the headquarters of the Club was in Studley park. A number of photographs in the album provide vistas of Kew on the Yarra that are otherwise unavailable.One of 24 labelled photos in part album, originating from the Victorian Canoe Club, which had its headquarters in Studley Park, Kew. The album includes a photographic record of canoe construction and also locations in Studley Park and Kew where the canoes were used.
