Jacket battle dress, 1977
standard style of a jacket battle dress from the late 1940s to 1982; it was used for parade dress; this jacket was worn by a warrant officer class 2 of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.This jacket has historical significance because it representative of a standard style service battle dress worn by soldiers of the Australian Army Post WW2 until the introduction of the modern polyester cotton uniforms. It is also in excellent condition, which is special considering it's age. Waist length jacket, with two breast pockets either side, collar, olive green, two shoulder patches on both side ones says “Royal Australian Electrical & Mechanical engineers” in Bright yellow/gold writing on a in navy blue shoulder patch; a ranking insignia of Warrant Officer class 2 above the cuff of both sleeves Label located inside the jacket on the right hand side it says “A.G.C.F. Lanyard, Battle Dress, Australian Government Clothing Factory, 1981
This lanyard attaches under the right shoulder epoulette of a jacket issued as a Royal Australian Engineers uniform item post WWII until the late 1980s. It was also used parade dress until its replacement of a newly designed uniform made of polyester. This particular sample belonged to CPL K. Howe 3144504 whist in the Army Reserves 1982 to 2005The khaki battledress was a standard uniform issued post world war two and used until the introduction of the polyester uniform in the late 1980s. This lanyard is a component of a uniform belonging to CPL K. Howe, the donor provided good provenance, in conjunction with other items of militaria donated by the Howe family. The Uniform can tell a story of multi generations of military service of the Howe familyA length of thick, navy blue, cylindrically shaped fabric. Knotted in two locations to create two loops at either end. Headwear - Military Peak Cap, Possibly 1942. May be associated with jacket bearing 10/12/1943 as date of manufacture
Presumably World War II based on comparison with silimar items. Initials inside cap may be associated with item to jacket, initialled with Lt. H. Dixon, VI. 7290.This item has historical signifigance as a an example of Australian military uniform dating presemably to World War II. Military peak cap, dark green. Brown leather chinstrap, attached by buttons on either side of visor with lettering 'AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES' and Australian army insignia. Top of cap has double row of top stitching in dark yellow thread. Metal rimmed air holes (two) on each side under top of cap. Inner band made of brown leather embossed or printed with maker inscription. Rear of inner band has a row of rectangles punched through leather .50 mm in length, 22 in total, threaded through with gold coloured ribbon, tied together at centre back. Inner cap lining made of pale gold fabric, with diamond shaped liner/swear shield attached and topstitched in gold thread. Bronze coloured badge above visor with lettering Australian Commonwealth Military Forces.'THE MYER STORE FOR MEN MILITARY TAILORS MELBOURNE & ADELAIDE' on inner band in gold. Hand written initials H, and what appears to be D N (area has tears and insect damage) visible on lining behind visor. Uniform - Great coat, 1967
It is a woolen khaki green great coat, with inter shoulder lining of khaki green canvas. There are back belt loop holes in the interior, lined by the same canvas. The pockets are made of the same canvas and are not sew to the interior of the coat at the bottom. The insides of the sleeves are lined with a more beige khaki green material. There is a split flap that is 500mm long in the middle at the bottom of the coat, which is fixed shut with two brown plastic buttons and a metal hook and eye at the bottom. The construction of the jacket is four panels and has been taken in at the waist for form above both pockets. The jacket has a back pleat from below the triangle stitching below the nape of the neck. The back belt has three metal insignia buttons, and the backside is lined with canvas. On both shoulders, there are epaulettes which have one metal insignia button each. On the front, there are three metal buttons on each on flap, and when the jacket is done up, the left flap goes on top. It has three button holes on the left flap and one button hole on the right flap for a large brown button on the inside of the left flap. There are two outer pockets on either side of the jacket. Beneath the jacket lapels, on either side there are metal buttons, and there are button holes for them in the middle of the bottom lapel. Where the upper and lower lapels are split, there is a hook and eye. There is a brown plastic button on the underside of both the upper lapels, which is where the extra flap of fabric on the inside of the left jacket flap, can be fixed as a face protector. The tag on the inside reads; DAVID KLEIN PTY. LTD. Victoria 1967 An arrow (Department of defence symbol) SIZE 6 CLASS 8405 66.012.0494 REGIMENTAL NO................... NAME......................... The regimantal number section had a number filled in but then scribbled out and another number written above, which is 359282. The name section was filled in with B.R.MIER. The name and regimental numbers were done in black marker pen. All the metal buttons are decorated with the medical corps symbol, which is a serpent-entwined rod (Rod of Asclepius) surrounded by a laurel wreath and above the rod is a crown (St Edward’s Crown). On the outside of the upper sleeves, just below the shoulder, there is two patches that signifies the rank of Staff Sergeant. The top patch is an embroided St Edward’s Crown and represents the staff rank. It is 47mm wide and 45mm. Below this there is a patch depicting the three stripes/ chevorns of the sergeant rank. The chevorn’s points face down, and the sides measure 66mm, while the depth down to the point is 86mm. A Prince of Wales Light Horse unit was based in Kyneton, a neighboring town to Woodend. This uniform likely originated from the Kyneton area. The jacket and trouser style was still in use during the Vietnam war in which the Regiment participated. Considering the condition of the item, it is highly likely that the uniform has not seen active service.This battle dress uniform is representative of a type of standard issue Army uniform, dating to the later half of the 20th century. It is also in very good condition.Khaki, wool jacket with yellow lanyard over the right shoulder. Prince of Wale's light horse embroidered on a yellow flash, stitched on both shoulders. Service Dress Jacket
Associated with the service of Lieutenant H. Dixon, circa 1943. Worn by people who served on the Home Front in this Corps during the Second World War.This item is significant because Australian Army khaki woollen service dress jacket with red embroidered circular Unit Colour Patch on the top of each sleeves consistent with markings of Australia's home guard – the Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC). Four button down closure. The jacket is fully lined with a lightweight fabric, either natural or synthetic. A self fabric belt passes around the waist and fastens with a buckle at the front. Button down epaulettes with two pips denoting lieutenant ranking. 'Rising Sun' collar badges on each lapel. Pleated breast pockets with triple pointed flaps with exposed buttons. A pair of pockets over each hip with straight flaps each fastened with one visiable button. Pockets over hips have one Four front pockets are fastened with one visible buttton. These 8 buttons are domed metal showing a raised emblem of Australia surmounted by the King's Crown: also see Tudor Crown or Imperial Crown. The back of these buttons have a loop shank, secured with cotton. Surrounding is a stamp K. C. LUKE PTY LTD. MELB. There is a small pocket on the inside of the jacket corresponding to the right breast pocket.Small, white, rectangular manufactures tag stiched with khaki coloured cotton within the small pocket on the inside of the jacket corresponding to the right breast pocket. They are also in very good condition.Dark green leather and elastic braces. The section that fastens to the back has two leather attachments with holes and slits for fastening to trousers. This section extends upwards and divides into two elastic straps to afix over shoulders. There is one metallic clip that holds that elastic in place near the front of the brace, where it is folded over and can be adjusted. The two strips then end with two leather attachments each, with holes and slits for fastening to the front of a pair of trousers. The leather components are textured on the exterior and smoother on the interior.
