Fairyland, when owned by the Tabulos was a noted local, state, national and international tourist attraction. The grandparents of the historian Dorothy Rogers had originally owned the house. The file contains a copy of Rogers’ history of the house. The file also contains sundry newspaper articles/clippings, correspondence between KHS and the City of Boroondara relating to heritage protection, personal email correspondence (not for distribution), poetry, research documents including timelines, and colour and black and white photographs (donated by Betty Morgan, Matt Dickerson, et al). Primary sources included in the file include photocopies of Jim Tabulo’s War records and Jim and Grace Tabulo’s wedding certificate. Mentioned is a short history of Victoria Hill and the mine of Christopher Ballerstadt and his son Theodore. The remains of a 20 head crushing battery, which was originally the ten head crusher of the Little 180 Mine remains. It later became the twenty head New Chum Syncline Battery. Prior to 1939 access to the Island was by punt from San Remo or car ferry from Stony Point. A bridge was opened in 1940 but increased traffic and low load capacity was a problem. The decision to build a new bridge was made in the 1960s.HistoricalColoured, bound booklet with a photo of the old and new Phillip Island bridges on the cover and the CRB logo and name on rear. It includes the order of proceedings for the opening and bridge statistics, plans and contractor information. Also photos of construction and a history of travel to the Island before a bridge was built and the first bridge. Eleanor Hinde (1842-1902) was born in Lancashire England. In 1858, Eleanor married Richard Reynold in the Forest Street Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sandhurst. They both gave their address as Sailors Gully Goldfields. They had seven children together. Richard was a skilled tradesman and after he died in 1872 from lung disease, Eleanor married Arculus Opie. Eleanor owned a property on the corner of Gladstone and Stanley Streets which later became an electrical substation. She sold poultry and eggs and preserves. The four folders contain family history documents and photos of the descendants of Eleanor Hinde. Louisa Catherine Reynolds (1892-1953) is the Granddaughter of Richard Reynolds and Eleanor Hinde.
