The first meeting of the 1st Bendigo Guides was held by Miss Merle Bush on the 22nd of August 1922 in the St Paul' School Room. Twelve girls were present. Miss Bush was given permission to open the Company by Miss R. The Tawonga Primary School celebrated its centenary on 25 - 26th Oct. 1980 with a program including a fete selling clothing with the option of buying iron-on transfers of the school building.Tawonga School was one of the earliest schools in the Upper Kiewa Valley supplying an education for the children of the farming community. The Sutton grange Congregational Church was built in 1865. Original services were held in the home of Mr James Grey who served the church for 50 years. The Bendigo Congregational church originally operated out of the Mechanics Institue building before moving temporarily to the Church of England school room. In May 1858, a meeting was held to establish a permanent building and tenders were called in September 1858. Land was purchased in Forest Street from the estate of Mr WIlkinson and the new brick structure was opened 28/11/1858.Manilla folder titled: Congregational Church Bendigo and district.
