This photo of rheumatologist and founder of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV), Dr Leslie Koadlow AO (1920-2006), was taken in the early days of the Association's existence. In the photo, Dr Koadlow is depicted lying on his side in his office, amongst some paperwork spread out on the carpeted floor. The photograph appears on page 3 of the Vol 9, July 1978 issue of the RAAV's quarterly newsletter, News Review. It is captioned: "The Medical Doctor in his "office" - 5th May, 1978. Photo - Courtesy Lincoln Institute." The photo accompanies an article titled, "Quaterly report of honorary medical director and president". In the article, Dr Koadlow points out that he has been working under difficult conditions, in an office that has yet to be furnished.B&W photo of a man, wearing a shirt, tie, and trousers, is lying on his side across a carpeted floor. He is propped up on one elbow, and is holding a small recording device or dictaphone in one hand. In his other hand, he is holding some papers. On the floor in front of him are several piles of paperwork, a folder, a bunch of keys, a box of matches and a pen. Tool - Glasses, c.1950
Nino Corda was a Geelong based textile designer who worked at various textile mills between 1957 & 2003. He travelled the world in search of the latest fashions and techniques and developed timeless designs that were much loved by Australians. These items are on rotational display at the National Wool Museum’s ‘In the Factory’ exhibition. For many years, Nino also worked as part of the Honorary Staff of the National Wool Museum. His passion for the world of textiles provided energy and knowledge to the visitors and staff of the museum. Although Nino has now retired from his honorary position and has hung up his Australian Tartan vest, these items will continue to serve the community in sharing the stories of Australian Textile design. Textile designers used glasses such as these to see how many threads are within a textile sample. It was important to count correctly, otherwise the enlarged final pattern would be out of alignment. These glasses were popular in the 1950s but were replaced by viewing lens, such as item 8040 (in the National Wool Museum's Collection) in the 1960s because of their compact nature.Thin metal wire makes up the frame of the glasses. The metal is a standard metallic silver. The piece to sit on-top of the ear is excessively curved to hook around the ear. This is done to ensure the glasses do not fall off the face while looking down to view thread counts in a textile sample. The glasses are lacking lenses in their usual place. This has been replaced by another thin wire frame which protrudes an extra inch in front of the frame, almost like an additional layer of the glasses. Where this layer / frame ends, two lenses can be found which are square and much smaller than typical glasses lenses. This has been done to allow for powerful magnifying glass which would be ill-suited if it sat too close to the face / eyes. The glasses are also accompanied by their original box. The box is blue and has a large rectangle running through its centre. This rectangle works as a cushion for the glasses and is required as a result of their unusual shape.textile design, textile calculations -

Thus giving the connection of the Greenwood and Carr families, the subjects of Charles Wheeler's painting.Painting in glass-fronted frame.Typewritten notation behind the frame - "Greenwood oral family history says that this unsigned painting was done by Charles Wheeler as a demonstration for Rose Greenwood, (A.V. Box Hill, Ringwood and Croydon stations opened on 1 December, 1882. Croydon was originally called Warrandyte station until the name was changed to Croydon on 1 August, 1884. Nunawading was originally called Tunstall and opened on 4 June, 1888. The name was changed to Nunawading on 1 November, 1945. -

Newspaper report of the death of Edgar Edwards Walker, aged 74, at his home in Mitcham, Victoria. (Newspaper name/date unknown).Mr Walker was governing director of the Australian Tesselated Tile Co. Pty. Ltd., Mitcham ... a company he founded 49 years ago. He was a member of the Nunawading Shire Council for 25 years, and was several times president. He took a keen interest in local affairs and was a trustee of the Mitcham Methodist Church and Memorial Hall. His funeral took place at Box Hill cemetery (December 1936). -

The gift was at the initiative of HRH The Princess Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary the daughter of the then King George V and Queen Mary. 189.1 Small card with paper insert 189.2 Three medals with coloured ribbons, one medal has a small metal badge attached. ‘The Art of the Japanese Package’ was an exhibition that toured to 10 Australian and 11 New Zealand public galleries in 1979 and 1980. The touring exhibition comprised 221 objects of traditional Japanese packaging which extended from ceramics, wood and paper to woven fibre containers. At the conclusion of the tour, The Japan Foundation and the Crafts Board of the Australia Council donated the vast majority of the exhibition to the Ararat Gallery for its permanent collection. Combining the natural qualities of bamboo, paper and straw with delicate craftsmanship, these unique objects express Japanese aesthetics as applied through fibre crafts. In Japan, the qualities and traits of natural materials are exploited rather than hidden. The texture of straw, the septa of bamboo are not concealed but lovingly incorporated into the whole. In 1979 Hideyuki Oka, curator of ‘The Art of the Japanese Package’ wrote: “In no way self-conscious or assertive, these wrappings have an artless and obedient air that greatly moves the modern viewer. They are whispered evidence of the Japanese ability to create beauty from the simplest products of nature. They also teach us that wisdom and feeling are especially important in packaging because these qualities, or the lack of them, are almost immediately apparent. There is, of course, no limit to design and colour among furoshiki, and they also vary in size, although the ones most commonly used are about three feet square. ‘The Art of the Japanese Package’ was an exhibition that toured to 10 Australian and 11 New Zealand public galleries in 1979 and 1980.
