The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. Ron Barassi was a Legacy boy after his father died at Tobruk in 1941. He helped promote Legacy in many ways and at many events over many years. The photo shows Ron Barassi participating in a tug of war event in Melbourne City Square and another participant is in army uniform. It was featured on the cover of The Answer September 1992, saying it was Legacy Week. Date of death: 3 November 1971, Fitzroy, Victoria. Barbara Black was the only woman casualty of the Vietnam War, dying from illness incurred while on active service. Australian Active Service Medal 1945-1975 with clasp 'Vietnam'. The AASM 1945 - 75 was approved in 1997. It was awarded for service in, or in connection with, prescribed warlike operations from 3 September 1945 until 13 February 1975. These items came from the Godfrey family who lived in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. The hat was bought and worn by Barbara Phipps (nee Godfrey) some time in the 1960s. It was bought from the department store of Cramond and Dickson, a prominent and important business in Warrnambool from 1855 to 1973. The two felt hat shapes were bought in Italy during World War Two by Jim Godfrey and given to his wife Joy. They were never made into hats to wear but remain in their original state. These items are of interest because they are connected to a 20th century Warrnambool family and because they are good examples of women's fashions of the past..1 A beige=coloured lady's felt hat with a slight fold in the crown and with a strip of felt around the outside of the crown ending in a single knot. Set of four documents regarding the issue of a Scholar's Concession Ticket to Barbara Talbot, a student at the Star of the Sea who turned 18 years of age during the currency of the ticket. It was marked not available after that date and had been returned to the Elwood office. The Memo from the "Auditor of Receipts" requested that an additional payment be collected from the student. Mr Gleeson, Tramway Inspected advised that ticket was not used after the lady's birthday and had been returned. The Methodist Girls' Comradeship was formed in 1918 with the first Branch being in Bondi, NSW. There were three sections: Junior Rays, 8 - 11 years; Senior Rays, 11 - 15 years and Comrades, 15 years and over. The aims of the MGC was to "challenge young people with the saving power of Jesus Christ and provide avenues of christian service" and "to provide for the spiritual, social, physical and educational welfare of the members". This ensemble was not owned by Lady Barbara Grimwade unlike the rest of the garments in this collection. It was donated to the Gallery by Mrs Jessie Briggs after she became aware of the Gallery’s extensive Tu collection. Mrs Briggs (Krongold) wore this ensemble to the marriage of her son, Lionel Krongold, at the Kew Synagogue, Melbourne. To compliment this outfit, Mrs Briggs wore gold shoes and a small Italian gold bag with the gown, a pair of diamond drop earrings, gold chain with diamonds, a gold bracelet with four diamonds and a simple Omega gold watch.

Wire-framed circlet. Frame covered in cotton netting. Frame has a scalloped design 3cms high. The over lapping scallops are covered in small pearl beads. Around the base of the head dress are attached net covered “lilies” each with a tear-drop shaped pearl bead at the centre. An elastic band is attached to hold the head dress firmly to the head.
