Parry Collection ‘Sunbeams’ and ‘Corinella’ were two of the few ways an Australian kid could get some acknowledgement and a pat on the back from the big wide world from the 1930s through to the 1950s. The Corinella columns ran in the Sun Newspaper with puzzles, jokes and colouring competitions. Kath Farmer played the role of ‘Corinella’ for yonks and hosted annual ‘Corinella’ Parties for boys and girls aged 5 to 13 years for decades. Sunbeam Certificates were awarded to young readers for good puzzles, riddles, drawings or original stories or verses. The Sun Newspaper Sunbeams Club Envelopes and Awards, envelopes with Ginger Meggs effigy and warning for the postman to take care with the delivery; various certificates received in return for colouring competitions and puzzles submitted back to the Sun Newspaper. Tickets were produced to enable first-class travel from Middle Brighton Railways station to Sandringham and then by Electric Tramway from Sandringham Railway Station to the corner of Bluff Road and Royal Ave. The ticket colours indicated to station staff, Inspectors, and conductors the nature of the ticket and its availability These tickets were purchased by the donor in 1970 long after the tramway had closed and travel classes were abolished on the suburban railways. They were available for use on the replacement bus service. This is a card sent by Mrs Whitehead in 1922 thanking the Warrnambool Club members for their sympathy following the death of Robert Whitehead. The Warrnambool Club was established in 1873 as a gentlemen’s club and the Warrnambool Club building which still stands today in Kepler Street was erected in 1877. The deceased Robert Whitehead was born in 1848 at Goodwood, Caramut and was a pastoralist. His second wife was Myrtle McFarland. Robert Whitehead is buried in the Tower Hill Cemetery.This card is of interest as it has a social history showing the type of bereavement card used in the 1920s – a plain card with a black edging. These cards could be purchased in bulk with a blank sheet for inserting the relevant details. The connection with the Warrnambool Club and Robert Whitehead is also of interest.This is a cream-coloured card with a black edge at the top left hand corner. It has handwritten and printed material. This collection of photographs contains a number done by local photographers including Thomas Johnson, James Harvey, Daniel Clarke, J Hider and P Dawson of Hamilton( and also Warrnambool). Some photos are dated 1873 and 1867 and names include C C Hunt July 17/66. This album contains a number of photographs by some of Warrnambool’s earliest photographers and while the subjects are unknown, the still add to the body of work by these artists which have survived to this day. This object relates to Herbert Swain GREENING. He was born on 1/01/1891 in Ballarat, VIC. Herbert Swain served in the AIF (3292) enlisting on, 13/07/1915 in Ballarat, VIC before being discharged from duties with the 5 BATTALION as a Army Non-Commissioned Private (PTE) on 15/02/1918. Herbert Swain GREENING was not a prisoner of war. His next of kin is Mrs. M. Greening - Mother. Herbert Greening was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.Brass coloured, circular badge with a crown protruding from the top centre. The symbol of the rising sun can be seen at the centre of the badge in relief with the letters A I F written just below. One line of text follows the top perimeter of the badge, while another line of text follows the lower perimeter (also in relief).
