Diggers & Mining. Stores at the diggings. Stores at the Ararat diggings, c. 1855. From the original in the Dixon Gallery, Public Library of NSW. Slide depicts the scene at the goldfields with the Commissioners huts and in the background there are other buildings. On the Gold field there is a man on a horse, a man with a heavily laden cart being pulled by 4 ox. Some men are working in the gully for gold, panning, using cradle. In the front centre at the bottom is the head and shoulders of a man with an axe digging out his mine. There are also some dogs in the picture and a tent in the front right corner. Leonard Vivian Lansell ( 16/10/1888-31/10/1963) was the son of mining magnate, George Lansell. He married Geraldine Orme in 1911. She was the daughter of a NSW grazier. Leonard was very active in Bendigo affairs, including President of the Bendigo Benevolent Asylum, the Bendigo Chamber of Commerce, The School of Mines and the Bendigo Art Gallery. He was also on the board of directors of several mines. As well as his Bendigo commitments, Leonard and Geraldine also ran the "Chah Singh" Station, near Moulamein, NSW. Resulting from this, he was appointed a pastoral inspector in 1929. After retiring to Toorak, the family was heavily involved in the Melbourne social scene. Although Leonard died in Toorak, he chose to be buried in Bendigo.Invoice book, beige cover with black spine. Invoices numbered from 417 to 496 all blank. At top left corner: Phone 999, L.V. In the background is a safety zone sign, the Solomons store, the T&G building, and many angle-parked motor cars. The T&G building is finished. The 1956 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XVI Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, from 22 November to 8 December 1956, with the exception of the equestrian events, which were held in Stockholm, Sweden, in June 1956. These Games were the first to be staged in the Southern Hemisphere and Oceania, as well as the first to be held outside Europe and North America. Set of six colour slides, possibly taken on Saturday 4 September 1972, prior to the closure of the Mt Pleasant line the following day. 1 - Two single truckers at Sturt and Lydiard Streets with many motor cars. Town Hall in the background. 2 - Tram 12 (Sebastopol) picking up passengers at the stop just before the tram turned the corner into Sturt St. Driver running a one-man tram. In the background are the ANZ and other bank buildings. 3 - Tram 13 at Stones Corner - with the destination of Gardens via Sturt St. West. The tram is crowded. 4 - Grenville and Sturt St with four trams and many motor cars - taken from near Lydiard St. 5 - Single trucker descends the hill to Grenville St, with the Titanic Bandstand in the background, 6 - Bogie tram westbound in a very busy Bridge St, near Grenville St. Demonstrates tram operations in the Ballarat city area prior to closure of the SEC operated system.Set of six Kodachrome cardboard slides.tramways, ballarat, trams, tram 12, city, lydiard st north, tram13, stones corner, sturt st, bridge st -

Galvanised sheet steel with top & bottom holes(central) & side mounting brackets & rounded corners. Painted with black base and white letters and lines used to indicate which depot track(Line) trams were to be parked or stabled on when returning to the depot. Depot had four under cover tracks (1 to 4) and one outside track ("0") road. Lettered as shown on the sketch on the original worksheet. Reg. Gives brief history of Australia's involvement in Second World War, 297H x 210W, no damage. 255.3 - letter from Victorian Committee to BTPS dated 28/2/19905 - white paper with colour logo, A4, BTPS received stamp in top right hand corner - crease in top left hand corner. 255.4 - 8 page A4 size magazine format on Australia Remembers events, issued in Jan. 1995 - 297H x 210W - no damage. 255.5 - single sheet - A4 size, black and white, and colour bromides of Australia Remembers logos in various screens.
