Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. was a North American jewellery company that was established in 1949 by the Stuart family as part of Emmons Jewelry, Inc. It began operations in England and Australia in 1968, and in Australia it moved from Carlton in Melbourne to Wodonga in 1969. The premises were originally on High St. in Wodonga, but a new warehouse was built in Melbourne Rd. later in 1969. It was a direct selling jewellery business using a party-plan model similar to Tupperware and Avon. The sales reps or 'Hostesses' were provided with jewellery samples in demonstration kits, which they displayed at jewellery parties in their homes. The designs for jewellery such as brooches, necklaces, earrings, chokers and bracelets were purchased from freelance designers and jewellery manufacturers rather than in-house designers. In 1979 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. in Wodonga was bought by three Australian businessmen, including Wodonga local Jim Sawyer, and continued to sell jewellery under the name "Sargem Pty. Ltd”, for several more years in the 1980s. As part of the Sarah Coventry collection, the earrings have local significance with the decentralised commercial development of regional centres such as Wodonga in NE Victoria, as well as national and international significance from the perspective of social and economic developments for women after World War II. This clock was manufactured by American clock company Ansonia in the late 19th - early twentieth century. Ansonia Clock was one of the major 19th century American clock manufacturers, producing millions of clocks between its incorporation in Connecticut in 1850, and its closure in 1929. In 1877 production moved from Connecticut to New York City, where inventor Thomas Edison visited the factory to experiment in combining clocks with his newly invented phonograph (an early form of gramophone). This clock is significant for its rarity due to age. A gothic style steeple wooden clock with gold and white embellishments, and Roman numeral numbering on the clock face. The New South Wales Railway Institute affectionately known as “the Institute”, was initially established to provide a higher standard of educational learning for NSW railway employees. As well as employment related training, the Institute was tasked with stimulating growth and intellectual development of employees in the arts, social, leisure, and physical recreations. The NSW Railway Institute was formally opened on the 14th of March 1891 and at the time was the only institution of its kind in the Commonwealth. The Albury branch of the Railways Institute was formed on March 1, 1921. This included the building of a Railway Institute building as part of the Railway precinct in 1921. On Tuesday 7 October 1952, the Daily Advertiser, Wagga reported that a move had started at Albury for the establishment of a third bowling club. The new club formed would be the Railway Institute Bowling Club and the suggested site was on Albury City Council land at the corner of Young and Smollett streets. The Albury Railway Institute opened its bowling greens in February 1956. It later became known as Windsor Park Bowling Club. In 2003, the Bowling Club was liquidated and was amalgamated with the Albury Soldiers Sailors & Airmen’s Club. After changes to their operating model, the club building was demolished in 2013. After meeting for 14 years in rented premises, in the Prince of Wales Hall, Wodonga Council built its first Shire Hall on the corner of High and Elgin Streets in 1890. The first Shire Hall was demolished in 1971. The second building, Wodonga’s new Municipal Offices in Woodland Grove were used for the first time by Wodonga Councillors on 7th August 1957. The Woodland Grove building has since been used for a range of purposes, most recently as a café, but is currently unoccupied. The third purpose-built council chambers were opened in November 1976 with the first council meeting there on 1st December 1976. Westminster Fine China Australia started in the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham at 7 Arnold Street, in 1954 by Stanley Rogers and Son Ltd. They initially used imported blanks from Japan, which were made to their specifications, and which were then decorated locally. They produced a standard range of shapes for souvenir ware, later expanding into a wide range of tea sets, dinnerware and many other styles of china ware. The Abbey mark, based on Westminster Abbey in London, was used from the start of production until about 1962.Woodland Grove was named in honour of Wodonga Shire’s first president, John Woodland. The building depicted served as the centre of municipal government for approximately 20 years, throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The banner depicts the original Unit motto and colour patch - white over red diamond - of the 24th Battalion which was raised in a hurry from a surplus of recruits at Broadmeadows Camp in Victoria. The battalion was formed during the first week of May 1915 ,and sailed from Melbourne at the end of that week. On September 4, 1915 the Battalion went ashore at Gallipoli and spent the next 16 weeks sharing duty in the Lone Pine trenches with the 23rd Battalion. in March 1916 the Battalion proceeded to France. It took part in its first major offensive around Pozieres and Mouquet Farm in July and August 1917. When patrolling no-man's land the men of the 24th adopted a unique form of snow camouflage - large white nighties bought in Amiens. The Battalion left the front line for the last time on 6 October 1918 and disbanded in May 1919. Victoria's 2/24th Infantry Battalion was raised in Wangaratta in July 1940 and were deployed to the middle east. After extensive fighting at Tobruk and El Alamein bettween July and November 1942 the Unit adopted a T shaped colour patch. After formation, the 2/24th battalion was moved to Wangaratta, where it remained until its training facilities were ready in Bonegilla prior to overseas deployment to the middle east.
