The Loyal Orange Institution of Victoria was established in 1843. As a society composed of Protestants, it works to support and defend the Protestant faith. The Institution is named in honour of King William III, Prince of Orange (1650-1702) and his achievements for civil and religious liberty. The first Orange Lodge in Victoria was founded in 1843, following a sectarian protest in Elizabeth Street Melbourne over the election of a Protestant candidate to the Legislative Council. By the 1890s there were 169 branches in Victoria, engaged in political lobbying for mainstream Protestant issues like temperance, Sunday observance, opposition to state aid for church schools, and opposition to any expansion of the political influence of Roman Catholics. The monthly meetings had an element of secrecy, as members wore regalia and followed a simple ritual. No Catholics could join. This dress belonged to Katherine Blair, a longtime resident of Brighton. Katherine Fennell Blair was born in April 1929 in Benalla to magistrate Douglas Granville Blair (1893-1976) and his wife Isabell Nora (“Billie”) Blair, nee McNamara (1895-1989). Katherine was a child when the family moved to Brighton, where she attended St Joan of Arc Catholic Primary School and Star of the Sea College. After school, Katherine worked as a secretary and PA for various companies in the Melbourne CBD. Following a working holiday in the UK in 1959-61, she returned to Brighton, living first with her parents at 14 Kilrush Street and later in Burrows Street. An active part of the local community, Katherine was a member of the Brighton Red Cross, Brighton Probus Club and the St Joan of Arc Catholic parish and choir.Long-sleeved black velvet dress with shallow v-neck and self-covered belt. The town borrows its name from the Koroitch Gundidj people who occupied the area prior to European settlement. The early use of the school strap is associated with Catholic boys junior boarding schools in Ireland. Some were made from two pieces of leather stitched together with a coin sewn into the striking end. It is thought the Federation University Strap was used at the Ballarat Junior Technical School, a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church was designed by the architect William Wardell. Prior to the construction of the church, mass was conducted at the Daniel Home 'Narbonne'. The foundation stone was laid on 13/11/1804 by the Catholic Bishop of Melbourne, Rev. Dr. J. This is a programme of a greyhound racing meeting held in Warrnambool in August 1975. The meeting was held in Botanic Park, in Botanic Road Warrnambool opposite the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens. Today greyhound racing meetings in Warrnambool are held in Koroit Street on a track in the Warrnambool Showgrounds and the Botanic Road site is now the location of a Catholic Primary School. This programme is retained as a memento of the 1970s when the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club meetings were held in a park in Botanic Road, Warrnambool. This is a soft cover booklet of 16 pages. The cover is yellow with black printing and an image in red of a greyhound and a map of Victoria. The programme has been stapled but the staples have been removed. 2015 was the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign, when Australian and New Zealand troops landed at Gallipoli in Turkey, during World War One. Galen Catholic College erected the ANZAC Memorial Stone to mark this anniversary. This study was produced for partial fulfillment of the requirements of Church History 111 in the degree of Bachelor of Theology in the Melbourne College of Divinity at the affiliated teaching institution, Catholic Theological College in November 1980.This is a local history book written by a local author. This item was found in 2018 washed up on the beach at Lady Bay in Warrnambool. It is a religious object and is similar to ones made and sold to be used in the home on a family altar or as an ornament on a shelf. It may originate from Italy. The display of items such as this would have been common in the early to mid 20th century, particularly in the homes of those belonging to the Catholic religion. The owner of this item is not known but it is retained for display purposes.This is a white china object with a statue of a Madonna and Child recessed into a oval-shaped setting. There are three holes at the top of the statue for attaching the item to a wall or shelf. The edge of the item is decorated with a pattern of white shells. This is the biography of Father John Brosnan (1919-2003) who was well-known as the Catholic Chaplain at Pentridge Prison in Melbourne for 30 years and the person who attended the hanging of Robert Ryan, the last man hanged in Victoria in 1967. Father Brosnan was born in Keilambete and spent his early years in Cudgee, attending Cudgee State School. This book is of interest because it tells the life story of Father John Brosnan who was born in the Western District and spent his early years at Cudgee, 15 kilometres from Warrnambool. Father Brosnan achieved fame as the Catholic Chaplain at Pentridge Prison and as the priest who campaigned to save Ronald Ryan from hanging and who was with Ryan when he was hanged. This is a soft cover book of 170 pages. The cover has an image of Father Brosnan in sepia tones set against a background of the front of Pentridge Prison in dark blue tonings. Champagnat College Wangaratta was opened in 1955 by the Marist Brothers. The sheaf of wheat on the badge represents the agricultural nature of the region. The southern cross represents Australia, the open book represents learning and the Jerusalem crosses represent the Catholic / Christian heritage of the college. The Marist 'M' represents the values and beliefs of the Marist Brothers, especially their devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. Maroon woolen boy's cap with gold and maroon braid trim on the peak. Cap is sewn in eight segments with cloth covered button at peak. Black cotton lining with circle of cream cotton in the centre where details of maker and owner are recorded. A yellow and maroon metal badge with gold detail is sewn to the front of the cap at four points. The words CHAMPAGNAT and DIEU ME VOIT are on the badge. Metal badge has Champagnat, the name of the college. Dieu Me Voit was the college motto. There is a sheaf of wheat, an open book, Marist Insignia 'M' and two Jerusalem crosses are also on the badge. Inside the makers were Philip Joseph and Son, Melbourne. It was made for Callenders Pty Ltd Wangaratta. Size is 6 5/8. Two owner's names: Original owner M.J. Monga or Mongu and Mongan has been written above this. Cap has information 'Improved fitting',' Pure wool,' 'Guaranteed Quality' and 'Genuine Flexite Peak.'

The house used to be the residence of Mr. Arthur Peake, owner of Peake and Cox, timber merchants, Mitcham. The house was on one side of Whitehorse Road and the mill was directly opposite. The Holy Name Society was prominent in Ballarat until the reforms of Vatican II. It promoted reverence for the Name of Jesus Christ, and abhorrence of blasphemy, profanity, and immorality. By the 1950s membership of the society in Australia numbered in excess of 100,000. The Holy Name Society was a male society although where it still survives it now welcomes both Catholic men and women.Blue silk banner trimmed in gilt braid the lower edge handkerchief cut with gold fringing. gilt cord with gilt tassle ends to either side. The society logo of the Chiros appliqued in the centre with the words of the Roman Emperor Constantine "In this sign we shall conquer", embroidered on a scroll beneath. The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society was established on 01 August 1892. The society provided sporting and debating for young men and later prime ministers Curtin and Scullin were members of the organisation, and it is where they learnt to debate. This image of the 1937 local football premiers is evidence of the sporting prowess of the members. The organisation ceased in the Ballarat Diocese in the 1940s.
