Object. A 5 cm long ribbon, woven in a heavy weave, with a .75 cm red vertical stripe on each side, and a 1.5 cm vertical light blue stripe in the centre. Three .75 cm bands of brass metal - a shaped strip at top and bottom of the fabric, with a rectangular shaped clasp in the centre. These three clasps have decorative engraved patterns. The lower clasp- called a suspender, has a circular hook at the bottom, from which is suspended a circular brass fitting, holding a metal link, which is attached to a four sided shape, with letters in a circular shape - HTWSSTKS, Lodge symbols are on each side of this perspex shaped hanging. A 6 cm long pin attached to a loop on the top bar would fasten the badge to a suit jacket lapel, or other regalia.organisation, masonic lodge, brass and ribbon lapel badge

Object. An elaborate item, with a light blue grosgrain ribbon background. An arched and a straight bar at the top state CORONA LODGE. A crown with fanned background, under which is a plinth and a clasp stating No 195 V.C. Below this is an inverted ^shape, highly engraved with a Greek eternity pattern, and decorative scrolling. From this shape hangs a rectangular shape 2 cms x 1.7 cms, which has a fine decorative edge, and a central motif. The underside of the ^shape is engraved as above.Front: CORONA LODGE No195 V.C. Ceramic plate gong and beater, made by Judy Lorraine possibly in her pottery studio in Wedderburn. Plate (a) is concave, mustard colour background with burnt orange and black decorative elements. Objects. Clothes brush is oval in shape, with a polished wooden base, and black bristles. Shaped to a rounded point at each end. Bristles 2.5 cm long. Nine rows of bristles. Make-up brush bears Chinese writing on the handle, 23.5 cm long with 6.5 cm long white hairs forming the brush. Hairs are held in an ebony cup shape fitting, attached to the handle. An ebony top-knot completed with a red silk ribbon loop finishes the top of the handle.Hair comb: Tortoise shell, with three 7 cm long teeth, which unfortunately are broken from the fan-shaped decorative top. Object. (a) A circular metal disk, slightly convex with six tiny crosses spaced around the outer rim. Shaped like a funnel at the rear, the handle extends into a 16 cm stem which would fit over the walking cane. Eight raised circles decorate the stem, giving a .8 cm decorative ridge. Four circles impressed below the lower edge. A hallmark is impressed below these circles, xo.... with remainder unreadable. (b) Circular rounded top, decorated with concentric small circles, raised slightly, and each centred with a tiny blue gemstone. A larger Royal Blue, circular raised gem stone is at the centre. Dad & Dave Cafe was located in Pall Mall Charing Cross Bendigo. It was opened by dairy farmer and milk bar owner Les McClure in 1939. His Four'n Twenty meat pies were initially made in Bendigo in 1947. McClure sold his Four'n Twenty Pie's Pty. Ltd. to Peters Ice Cream (VIC) Ltd. in 1960.A cream coloured jug with green decorative trim and McClures on it. Object. Rich royal blue grosgrain braid, 10 cms wide surrounds a rectangle of cream kid leather, 21 cm wide x 24 cms deep. On this rectangle is an embroidered wreath of foliage in gold and orange coloured thread, embellished with gold metal thread, which also outlines an embroidered bow, at the base of the wreath. In the centre of the wreath, a looped bow is embroidered in thread, and embellished with the gold metal thread. Two gold coloured metal decorative shapes are placed, one on each side of the lower edge of the leather. Two 5 cm wide tabs, adorned with a heavy lodge symbol, including 4 cm long brass metal chain, with ball decorative elements, hang from the waist, and fall to 3/4 length of the leather panel. A peaked flap 9 cm deep is attached from the waistband, and falls loosely over the leather panel. It is also adorned with a brass metal lodge symbol. Object. eight ribbed parasol. Black silk satin, and black cotton lace in a floral design. Eight peaks around the perimeter of the umbrella, attached to the double layer of fabric in the main body of the umbrella-an outer layer of silk, satin, and an inner layer of cotton. This lining is hand stitched. Frame, including handle of lacquered wood. Handle is graciously curved and carved like a feather. Thangkas are cloth scrolls unique to Tibetan Buddhism, depicting deities, venerated spiritual figures, or common religious symbols. Wilfred Clarence Busse, born in Chiltern in 1898, His family moved to the region during the gold rush and continued to reside in the area, purchasing land adjacent the Murray River. Busse completed his secondary education at Wesley College in Melbourne then studied law at the University of Melbourne. Busse went on to become a barrister, often in the chambers of Sir Leo Finn Bernard Cussen (1859-1933) a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. He worked most of his life in Chiltern as a Barrister and Solicitor and gained the unofficial title of historian of Chiltern, leaving behind several manuscript histories and a scrap book. Busse was an avid fictional writer and in 1930 he published two novels. Time spent on a Victorian station in his early twenties, as well as careful documentary research, informed the writing of his historical novels of bush life. "The Blue Beyond; A Romance of the Early Days in South Eastern Australia” and "The Golden Plague: A Romance of the Early Fifties." "The Golden Plague” won the T. E. Role gold medal for the best historical novel which went on to become a best seller. Busse often drew inspiration for his novels from his younger years living Chiltern. His passion for the region lead him to write “The History of Chiltern” which was published in a serial form in the Chiltern Federal Standard from 1922-1923. Wilfred Clarence Busse was a member of Chiltern Athenaeum (where this object is now held) up until his death in 1960, he is buried in the Barnawartha Cemetery. The floral motif on this particular spoon appears to be stylised in the decorative arts and craft style favoured in Europe between 1880-1920 and less representational than examples of Australiana flora captured in silversmithing from the 1850's onwards produced in Australia. It is likely that those producing silverware at the time would be drawing on the decorative arts movement while incorporating elements of the natural beauty in the flora of their newfound environment into the silverware they produced. This spoon seems more likely to have been produced in Europe and imported to the colony. The hallmarks on the handle DON and BP indicate it may have been produced from English electroplating silver which is a more cost effective product than solid silver, most likely produced by Cooper Brothers, Don Plate Works, established in Sheffield in 1866 who distributed silverware in Europe, America and the colonies well into the 1950's.Wilfred Clarence Busse was of social significance to Chiltern, he helped to document the cultural story of the area in his published works "The Golden Plague" and "The Beyond Blue" by recounting his own upbringing in a bush lifestyle. He was a respected Barrister and was the unofficial historian of the Chiltern Athenaeum for many years. This spoon represents a window into the domestic life of this person who was well loved in the area, and it continues its relationship to Busse as well as Chiltern by being held within the very collection he helped to maintain in his life. Domestic objects tell us the story about how people lived, objects of daily use hold particular meaning in that they can tell us the story of an individual, we feel closer to their life and habits, it humanises and connects us across time.
