Tom Megee (who generally spelled his name as McGee) was a son of Thomas Megee and his wife Jane, née Head. He enlisted for military service during World War I under the name Thomas McGee. The Civilian Service Medal 1939 - 1945 was established in 1994 by the Australian Government. It recognizes the service of civilians who served in Australia during World War 11, in organisations that were subject to military-like arrangements and conditions of service, or arduous circumstances, in support of the war effort. The original medal is missing in the presentation box. Electro hydraulic dredge Snake Valley 1909. J Mc Bennett, was an engineer back at the main base, at Dawson's dam on the Carngham Road, Between Linton and Snake Valley. These dredges were used for getting gold. The streams of water under high pressure just washed the hills and ground away. This dredge closed down early 1910. 200 H.P. motors were used and 10 in. pumps.Black and white image of three workmen, one beside mining building the other two at dredge pump outlet. Image mounted on dark brown card. Between 1904 and 1911 the Electro Hydraulic Company sought to extract gold in an area north of Linton known as the Hard Hills. By blasting water from high-pressure hoses into the hillsides, soil containing gold was washed out for sluicing. Two gravel pumps in Dawson's Dam pumped the wash through the sluices. The youngest child of William and Elizabeth Todd (née Bennett), Stella was born in 1901. After leaving school in 1916, she worked as a milliner, and eventually became the proprietor of "Lucille" millinery in Ballarat. She married Geoffrey Surman in 1926. Stella Surman returned to live in Linton in the 1960s, and was very active in church and community affairs. This blazer was worn by Helen Veitch while a student at Ballarat Teachers' College. She attended Urquhart Street Primary School and Ballarat High School. The first school she taught at was Wedderburn Primary School Grades 1 and 2 (46 students). She also taught at wendouree West , Urquhart Street and Pleasant Street Primary Schools. Margaret Ellen Holloway married William Hugh Hooke in 1892. Margaret is the daughter of James Charles Holloway and Mary Bennett. She was born in 1864 in Indigo,via Rutherglen at the gold lead. Her father James came out from Somerset England with a large family group to settle in the North East of Victoria and to try their fortune at gold mining. The Holloway’s and their descendants then went on to farm in the district including Rutherglen, Chiltern, Springhurst, Barnawartha and Browns Plains. "Bernard Junck" enlisted No. VX21273 age 21 years in 2/2nd Pioneers on 3.6.1940. Embarked for the Middle East on 7.7.1941. Wounded in Action with GSW to the left foot 9.7.1941. Rejoined unit 4.8.1941. Embarked from the Middle East and disembarked at Batavia Java. Reported missing approx. 7.3.1942 then as POW. Transported to Japan on 15.1.1945, recovered at Omuta, Japan on 13.9.1945. Transferred to Manila then to Sydney and discharged from the AIF on 18.12.1945 with the rank of Private.
