One of seven photographs produced by the Portland Cement Association in 1921 showing how concrete kerbs could be created. Portland Cement Association (PCA) was founded in 1916. From 1917, the association actively promoted the benefits of concrete for road works in Australian newspapers. In the nineteenth century in Melbourne (Vic.) 'made roads' typically had gutters and kerbing lined with bluestone.The photographs are important evidence of the availability of instructional models for the use of concrete in street works in Victoria. While the photographs date from the early 1920s, the use of concrete for kerbing did not reach its maturity until after World War 2. One of a series of photographs and documents donated by Jean Woollard relating to her father, Wilfred Charles Woollard, (and to herself). Wilfred Charles Woollard (1892-1971) was the grandson of William Woollard (1834-1923) and Charlotte Woollard, nee Lott (1828-1902), early settlers in Kew. Wilfred's father and mother were Walter Herbert Woollard (1856-19) and Rosa Anna Woollard, nee Morgan, (1859-1936). Trooping of the 20th Light Horse guidon through the streets of Seymour Victoria to mark a significant occasion in the towns long connection with the Regiment. A parade involving seven Ferret Scout cars was an unusual event. This photograph was displayed in the ORs Mess at the 8th/13th VMR depot Wangaratta until closure of the depot when the photo was passed to the Regimental Collection. In the 1920s and 30s, rowing on the Yarra was a very popular weekend pastime. Each of the early boats was individually named in gold letters on its varnished wooden backboard. This is all that remains of one of the Thames pulling boats from Burns' Boatshed at Studley Park which was destroyed by a falling tree in a storm. Their entire fleet of rowing boats has now been replaced by fiberglass boats.Varnished wooden backplate of a rowing boat.
