Ross Milne grew up on his family's tobacco property in Myrtleford, Victoria and started skiing at Falls Creek when he was 13. He went on to win the North-Eastern District Ski Association (NEDSA) Junior Championships for three years in a row. In 1961 Ross was a member of the Australian team which competed against New Zealand in the Inter-Dominion Championships. In 1963, he won the Downhill and Alpine Combined title at the Australian Championships, while placing second in the Grand Slalom event. Ross Milne was selected in the Australian team that participated in the 1964 Olympic Winter Games at Innsbruck, Austria. A few days before the opening of the Games, on 25 January 1964, he tragically lost his life when he crashed into a tree during a training run for the Men's Downhill. He was only 19 years of age. This laminated copy of an advertisement promotes an Easter Monday picnic to be held at G. Eason's Farm in aid of the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. The original poster is undated. The farm was located at what was then known as Scot's March, later called Scotsburn, located a few kilometres southeast of Buninyong. The event promised a wide array of food, tea, coffee, games, sports and ended up with a Grand Ball. Laminated copy of an undated advertisement for a Grand Easter Picnic to be held at Eason's Farm, Scot's March, near Buninyong. Proceeds were to go to the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. Scot's Marsh is an earlier name for Scotsburn. Premiership cap presented to Hercules "Hec" Vollugi after Essendon won the 1901 premiership. Premiership caps were presented by both the VFA and the VFL until about 1924. The caps were traditionally made of navy silk. This one has had Essendon's colours embroidered on the peak in the shape of a shield. This is an early 20th Century photograph of the Warrnambool Pipe Band with the three men identified. The Band has been photographed at a recreation ground indicating that the Band was possibly performing at a Western Caledonian Games or gathering.The Warrnambool Pipe Band was established in 1906 and went into recess from 1916 to 1935. Today under the name of Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums it performs regularly in the area.No other information is available on the men identified. This item is of considerable significance because it conveys a fine impression of members of the Warrnambool Pipe band in the early 20th Century. It is a rare item, redolent with history. The 1st Kew Scouts was one of the first Scout Troops in Victoria, being formed in 1909. From 1927 they met in a magnificent Scout Hall in Disraeli Street, Kew until it was demolished in 1993. Still operating (in 2020) from their new Scout Hall on the corner of Kilby Road and Kellett Grove, Kew.1st Kew Scouts undertaking water rescue training at Bulleen. The photograph was most likely taken while the Scouts were camping beside the river one summer, with the programs generally including not only fun and games but also varying training activities. At the time many locals swam in the river. 1924 was well before the construction of major water storage dams and urbanisation of the upper reaches of the Yarra River, which significantly reduced downstream flows and water quality. These days, the Scouts tend to raft and canoe in the Yarra, rather than swim. On front: 1924.
