Ballarat Junior Technical School was a division of the Ballarat School of Mines, Opening in the ground of the Dana Street Primary School in 1913, it moved into a custom built double storey building on the Ballarat School of Mines Grounds in 1921. Booklet contains songs and chants written by students. In 1912 W. H. Middleton was Acting President of the Ballarat School of Mines. Part of the report includes are: 'The Trade Classes in Plumbing, Manual Training, Carpentry, Telegraphy, Blacksmithing and Fitting and Turning are all being carried out with success'. 'Classes in Agricultural Chemistry and Botany for teachers have been carried on during the year, and have been well attended by those for whom they were intended'. Owned by Russ Haines since 1966. Antimony was mined in Ringwood during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The ore known as Stibnite is a sulphide of Antimony. The metal is alloyed with lead in the manufacture of lead-acid batteries and in typesetting. Stibnite has been used for centuries as a cosmetic (marking eyebrows). The Diploma Subjects Building was designed to be erected on the M.B. John Factory site (Lydiard Street towards Armstrong St), to provide facilities for the tertiary sector of the Ballarat School of Mines. This proposal was aborted when the Mount Helen Campus site was acquired and a new campus started there in 1967. In 1906 Andrew Anderson was President of the Ballarat School of Mines. Part of his report states: 'The Annual Reunion of the students was held in December last, and was largely attended by students and Members of the Council. Advantage was taken of this opportunity by the students to present Professor A. Mica Smith, who has completed twenty-five years service with the School, with a valuable silver coffee and dinner service and Miss J. Knox Smith with a large portrait of the Professor'.
