The Victorian Railways continued to operate a bus service along the former Black Rock - Sandringham line, long after the tram line closed. The photograph shows a cable tram set with trailer 44 at the Bridge Road Richmond terminus. The S McIntosh's Bridge Hotel is in the background, along with four shops including the Oriental Cafe for Tea and Grills. It would appear that the gripman is ready to leave though a male passenger seems to be hurrying forward to catch the tram. The typed caption records that the dummy is No. 12, the photograph is dated Jan. 1924 and notes the slotted depot lead out track in the foreground. Also discusses the ventilator cones on the grip car, following the installation of electric lights. Photo by A G Renwick. Copy of an agreement dated 16/11/1900 between The City of Ballarat and the British Insulated Wire Company Ltd. Sets out the conditions that a tram system would be constructed - such as tramcars, gauge, streets, speeds including that for horse trams, alterations to services, assignment to ESCo, fares, licence for 30 years, option for Council to purchase, and lines to be constructed. Signed by John Whykes and J J Brokenshire and Vincent J Duthie for Council and Benjamin Deakin and J F Hanby for BIWC. Prepared by Cuthbert Morrow & Must, Solicitors, Ballarat. See page 35 of "The Golden City and its Tramways", for background to this agreement. Located about 15 kms north-east of Coober Pedy is the longest continual construction in the world, ‘The Dog Fence’, stretching some 5,400 kms. The fence starts east of Surfer’s Paradise in Queensland and winds it way north of Ceduna in the Great Australian Bight and is two and a half times longer than the Great Wall of China snaking across the outback . It was erected to keep out hostile invaders, to stop dingoes, Australia’s wild dogs and top predators, from killing sheep. Tool - Object, Oriental Box Bellows
Japanese style box bellows (fukisashi/吹差鞴) reached their current and finalized form by about the sixth century. They are constructed almost entirely of wood and allow a smith to supply a highly controlled air blast to the forge by pulling and pushing the handle slowly back and forth. Clothing - Silk Organza Wedding Dress, Oggi Fashion House, 1971
Fashion by Oggi, as the sign above the door proclaimed, was located at the Paris End of Collins Street, on the south side, virtually opposite Lilian Weightman’s Le Louvre boutique. Janet Brock, who at the time was working in the Central Business District of Melbourne, had stopped to admire a mauve version of the dress that was displayed in the window, and, on making inquiries from the proprietress, ordered a made-to-measure cream-coloured copy. Her marriage occurred shortly after the death of her father, and took place on 18 December 1971 at the Kew Presbyterian Church in Cotham Road, where the Rev. Peter Mackie was the celebrant. The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories.Wedding dress, purchased by Janet Elizabeth Brock in December 1971 from Oggi of Collins Street. The wedding dress, reaching just below the knee, is lined in silk with a double outer layer of organza. The striking decoration of the monochromatic cream dress is achieved through the use of wide ruffled organza frills at the neck, on the sleeves and at the flared hem of the dress. The dress has a discrete v-neckline with small, self-covered buttons at centre front. At the back, the dress is closed with a nylon zip. Tramcar built by Pengelley of Adelaide.
