The Tibetan astrological calendar is a lunisolar calendar composed of either 12 or 13 lunar months, each beginning and ending with a new moon. A thirteenth month is added every two or three years, so that an average Tibetan year is equal to the solar year. The Tibetan astrological calendar has roots in the Indian calendar system and has been in use for over a thousand years.The Tibetan calendar is an important tool for determining auspicious dates and times and for making predictions about future events. The calendar is an essential aspect of Tibetan identity and culture and continues to be used and revered to this day. This ornate copper disk represents the traditional Tibetan astrological calendar (called Phukpa) based on a 60-year cycle where each year is associated with an animal and an element. The central figure is surrounded by eight trigrams (known as Parkhas), featuring one of the four seasons and four cardinal directions. This sign is a part of the "human" factor required for remote and difficult, large impact (both labour and other resources) projects. It is one of the "human" factors which was clearly used in the big 1930's to the 1970's "landscape redevelopment" schemes which started in the early 1900's and is highly regarded as lifting the Australian psyche of only primary producers to an industrial level, equal to any in the world.This "Wet Canteen" sign was installed at the entrance of the Bogong "workers" village "provision's hut" detailing the operational times for the SEC Victorian staff and construction workers, involved in the building of the Kiewa Hydro Electricity Scheme to obtain alcoholic beverages. This facility lasted for over the extensive period (1938 to 1961) of the "Schemes" building phase. This large project was the forerunner when industrial legislation provided for the welfare of workers living in the Bogong Village. The provision of facilities such as a "wet canteen" was of the utmost importance not only to ensure that the long running project was both successful, production wise, but also that its employees were not only physically but also mentally healthy. This sign details that all aspects required for a fit and productive labour force were in place, in this remote and demanding work environment. The majority of heavy equipment and machinery used was either made in England or Europe. A section of the specialised workforce came from local and European expertise in dam construction and water management in alpine terrain. The majority of labour came from migrants and some specialists recruited from England and Europe. At this point in time, the quality of the machines used came from England, Europe and the USA and could not be matched from anywhere else in the developed world. With a specialised workforce came the responsibility of providing all the "comforts of home" including alcoholic beverages. On site accommodation for the workforce is still a requirement for some mining areas but high market returns have produced fly in/out labour.This anodised metal sign has been "block" stenciled on. Taken c1911, this photograph shows Kathleen Price (1894 - 1954) aged 18. Kathleen was the daughter of early settlers on Lot 1 of the Village Settlement, Edward Joseph and Annie (nee Ross) Price. Kathleen had two brothers - Charles born 1893 and Edward John born 1899. The family worked their business as equal partners. The autoharp is a portable, stringed musical instrument. It is a member of the zither family but differs from the traditional zither in that chords can be easily played. The buttons on the chord bars of the autoharp can be pressed onto the strings to make different sounds. The labels on the autoharp denote the chords and the notes that the strings play. The instrument is played with the box resting on a flat surface such as a tabletop, with the left hand moving the chord buttons and the right hand strumming the strings, usually with a pick or plectrum . The autoharp was invented around the mid-1880s. There are models now available that have variations in the numbers of strings the instrument has, and differences in the sounds of the chords. Typically the autoharp has 36 strings.This autoharp is an example of musical instruments played at social gatherings and concerts in the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s. It was easily carried by the player. It is usually held in the crook of the left arm with the narrow end resting on the should and the left hand supporting the wider end, the hand pressing on the chord buttons. “Pennies” were awarded to the Next of Kin of soldiers who died in or as a result of the “Great War” and approximately 1.5million were issued up until the 1930’s they were accompanied by a scroll (letter) from King George with the message “‘I join with my grateful people in sending you this memorial of a brave life given for others in the Great War”. The Name of the serviceman, which appears on the medallion' is always shown without rank. This is to show that the sacrifice of all men is of equal value.Stanley Alan Morey was born in Dulwich, London, England from whence he came to Austalia and lived with his parents and elder sister in Brighton Victoria He became a fitter and turner. He enlisted in the A.I.F on the 21th April 1917 Service number 3444 and was assigned to the 59th Battalion and embarked from Sydney on the HMAT “Port Melbourne” on the 16th July 1917 He went to France from England on the 9th January 1918 and joined his unit 18th January 1918 at Le Havre Less than 3 months later he was Killed in Action. He has no known grave but is remembered by a Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France Round Bronze Medallion/PlaqueDepicts British rule of the sea (Britannia with two Dolphins), and a lion representing the British Empire. A similar glass churn is advertised in the mail order catalogue for D & W Chandler Ltd, Melbourne. Issue No.49, page 168. An alphabetical list of members of Legacy in 1932, with 170 names. The second list has the member name, their membership number, a business address and personal address. One of the few lists found that include the rank of the Legatee. Early in Legacy's creation it was determined that importance was not to be placed on the rank of the Legatee and all were seen as equals. The notation H16 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. This is an example of Sydney Legacy promotional material from 1951s for Sydney Legacy. It promoted the War Orphans Appeal which was an early means of fundraising. It suggests that a person could make a pledge of a small amount of money weekly. For instance, 3 pence per week from 40 contributors would equal £26 and provide for 1 ward. The brochure shows different stages of junior legatees life, from baby to school, and post school roles such as office girl or tradesman. One of a collection of photographs donated by Mr J. W. Gliddon and used in his book "Phillip Island in Picture and Story"Photograph of Surgeon George Bass who came ashore on Phillip Island on the morning of January 5th 1798At seven o'clock on the morning of January 5th 1798 the famous British navigator Surgeon George Bass stepped ashore on Phillip Island and became the first known white man ever to do so. He had sailed from Sydney in an open whaleboat with six able seamen. Of this voyage by Bass, Matthew Flinders said, "It had probably no equal in the annals of maritime history."

This cabinet would have been made in the early 20th century for as office or home office furniture. It's neat brass lock and key gives the contents some basic security but could be easily tampered with. At some stage there were two additional divisions in the top row of pigeon holes, which would make fifteen compartments of equal size available. A cabinet such as this could be used to classify or sort items, for example, mail for different people, or categories of business papers such as bills, orders, receipts, pay book, bank book and so on.This cabinet represents the type of furniture available for offices and businesses in the early 20th century.
