Photograph: Norm Borchers with Colin Cleary Colin Cleary is the author of "Ballarat Labor". The photograph is taken at the book launch at Ballarat Trades Hall. Norm Borchers contributed many stories to Cleary's book. Several copies of the book are held at Ballarat Trades Hall and are available for loan. Cleary also wrote a book called "Bendigo Labor". Norm Borchers passed away in 2008. Borchers was a Club President of the Sebastopol Lions Club (1975-76). He worked for the railways as an engineering employee and was long-term trade unionist (Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Australian Railways Union) and ALP member; he lived and worked in the Ballarat area. Norm was active in workplace disputes during the ALP split in 1955. He was a long time supporter of Ballarat Trades Hall. Machine - Model - Evaporator
Model of the evaporator was made especially as a farewell gift for Norm and Loretta Hooper upon their retirement from Rosella Food Factory c 1990. The model was made in the workshop and presented to Norm and Loretta Hooper upon retirement. Model of "Rossi Cattelli" evaporator used at Rosella Factory from approx 1983. Built in Italy the working machine was assembled on the south side of the factory by Joe Guiareschi. Later sold to SPC Ardmona. Replica model of the Rossi Catelli evaporator. Quinn CollectionA three page letter written on three sheets of unlined, buff-coloured paper (0908.a1-3). Letter is headed 542 Jersey Street, San Francisco, phone AJ 2-0309 and dated 20/12/52. The matching envelope (0908.b) is addressed to Mr Allen [sic] Quinn. It has been re- addressed from C/- Australia House, The Strand, London, England to 8 Gloucester Walk, W8. Written in the top left hand corner is N Cowley, 542 Jersey St. S.F. Calif. Below this is a purple post office 'Returned To Sender From San Francisco Postage Due.' stamp . This is partially obscured by one of the five three-cent postage stamps placed across the top and down the right hand side of the envelope. 'Air Mail' is written diagonally across the lower left hand corner. On the back is a partially legible postmark dated 2 January 1953. The postmark on the front is illegible.
