Book - The Ice Beneath my Feet, Diana Patterson, 2010
Diana Patterson was searching for her path in life when she was bitten by the Antarctic bug in her late twenties. With dogged determination, she set her sights on becoming the leader at one of Australia's Antarctic research stations - a lofty aspiration, considering this was definitely a bloke's world. She was knocked back four times, but it didn't deter her - and at the age of 38 Diana became the first woman in charge of Mawson, a small, mostly male community of scientists and tradies living in each other's pockets 24/7, thousands of miles from the comforts of home. The Ice Beneath My Feet is an intimate and riveting account of Diana's Antarctic dream. The day-to-day reality of life in this frozen environment and the adventures of the delightful, vital characters we meet along the way (men, huskies, penguins!) are utterly captivating, and a must-read for anyone with a love for adventure.A publication of 358 pages including 16 pages of illustrations, maps and photographs. The front cover features a photo of the author in front of a flock of penguins. The back cover includes a synopsis and photographs.non-fictionDiana Patterson was searching for her path in life when she was bitten by the Antarctic bug in her late twenties. City of Kingston
Photograph - Colour, 1993
Carrum is a suburb in the City of Kingston bordered by the Patterson River in the north and Kananook Creek in the south. To the east the suburb is adjacent to Patterson Lakes. The Carrum Station was opened in 1882, when the railway line from Mordialloc was extended to Frankston. In the early 20th century, it was a destination for holidaymakers occupying tents and cabins. The area now consists of older housing and over time there have been many new housing developments.Carrum is located in the area that was originally part of the Carrum Carrum Swamp. The district had originally been the home of the Bunerong people who fished, gathered food and found refuge in the sand dunes. The Swamp was drained in 1879 when the Patterson Cut was formed and became known as Patterson River. Apart from local farmers, fishermen and hotel-keepers, there were few permanent residents until the early 20th century when it had become popular as a beach resort. In the 1920s and 1930s the area became occupied by more permanent residents.Laminated aerial colour photograph of Carrum and Patterson Lakes in the City of Kingston. The photograph also includes Kananook Creek and the northern section of Seaford. Prominent features include Roy Dore Reserve, Carrum Primary School, Patterson River Secondary College, Keast Park Seaford, the Seaford Swamp Drain and a section of Downs Estate situated on the traditional lands of the Bunurong people.Black type on white adhesive sticker: No. 7140 Black type of white adhesive sticker: 31-1-93 Black handwritten ink (marker): * [an asterisk] Yellow circular adhesive stickerpatterson lakes, seaford, carrum carrum swamp -

Sculpture: Pamela IRVING (b.1960), Pamela Irving, Green Wedge Larry, 2012
Pamela Irving (born 1960) is a prominent Australian visual artist specialising in bronze, ceramic and mosaic sculptures as well as printmaking and copper etchings. Irving's early art was influenced by artists including Arthur Boyd, John Brack, Noel Connihan, Mirka Mora, Sidney Nolan and John Perceval. In recent years, Irving has been influenced ″by the honest and direct expressiveness of ‘outsider art’ (the art of self-taught or ‘naive artists’) and the craft of ‘memoryware’″ Significantly, this interest grew following Irving's visit to Nek Chand's Rock Garden in Chandigarh, India.Green Wedge Larry - dog sculpture reminiscent of the iconic Larry LaTrobe located at Melbourne City Square. The dog is constructed from Italian Bisazza glass tiles, using a Mapei adhesive system. The theme for his 'coat' is the flora from the local surrounds of Nillumbik, drawing from the 'Live Local Plant Local' Nillumbik plant directory.green wedge, larry, dog, sculpture, mosaic, indigenous flora, irving -
