Kew Historical SocietySince its foundation in 1958, members of the Kew Historical Society have been compiling and storing information about subjects relating to the history of Kew and its environs, of which this file is an example. Arranged by Secondary Values (value of records to users)Subject file created by researchers of the Kew Historical Society containing primary and secondary sources relevant to the Meals on Wheels Service delivered through the Elderly Citizens Centre initially by the City of Kew and subsequently by the City of Boroondara. In addition to sundry newspaper clippings the file includes a list of drivers and a large pamphlet giving instructions to drivers about delivery. Events that occurred in 1969 : Alexander Mair died, he was a member of the board of management since 1952, RVIB faced a deficit, to date they did not have to restrict the scope of any of the services available to blind people and it was hoped with increasing support from all sections of the community that they would not have to do so, after 31 continuous years radio station 3KZ decided to discontinue its association with the Melbourne traditional Christmas festival carols by candlelight but in doing so offered the RVIB the rights to continue. The Mount Beauty Senior Citizens' Clubrooms were officially opened on the 8th December 1972.The building was built and owned by the (then) Bright Shire after much lobbying and fund raising by a local steering committee. It has served the community well for over 50 years.This album is a significant reminder of how the community of Mount Beauty was always pro-active in the development of community welfare and assets.Orange Vinyl covered photo album circa 1960s-1970s. Inside the covers are 10 double-sided plastic-covered cardboard pages secured by a metal spirex type page holder. Two gold lines with geometric cornice design border the cover.
