Yields information about Ballarat tram 29 when it was dressed for the Floral Festival and the launch of the tram and how it was used by a small photograph publisher for sales.Digital image from the Wal Jack Ballarat Album of a postcard featuring the 1939 Floral Tram, photograph at the depot, rendered in colour and positioned within an outline of a map of Australia. Wal's notes date it as 4-3-1939. Uses the same base photo similar to 1369, but without the motor bike in the rear. On the rear has a the stamp "L.W. Badge - Centenary of the Brisbane General Strike, 2012
Replica Australian Tramway Employees Association (Tramways Union) badge. Badge made on a steel/ silver backing with words "Australian Tramway Employees Association" on inner edge of badge with a black background. In centre of badge has the Australian coat of arms with a railway type spoke wheel above the logo and underneath the coat of arms the words "Federated Australia" in a banner. Has a steel ring through a hole in the top of the badge. On the outer edge with red background "Centenary Brisbane General Strike 1912-2012". Badge has a metal clip on the rear. Contained within a plastic envelope, "Centenary Brisbane General Strike" and details of the even printed on a piece of light card. Leisure object - Model PS Weeroona
Built in 1910 by A & J Inglis, of Glasgow, Scotland (yard no 290). 1412 t. Her length of 310 ft (95 m) made her the largest paddler on the bay, serving until 1942. It was initially owned by Huddart Parker Ltd, Melbourne. She then embarked on a new adventure having been bought by the US Navy for use as an accommodation ship. She sailed to Sydney and then onwards via Brisbane and new Guinea under tow. She ended up in the Philippines sailing as part of the towed convoy of assorted vessels backing up the US invasion. She came back to Australia owned by the Federal Government and sold for scrap. In 1951, her remains were scuttled off Berry Bay in New South Wales. Like so many ships that were used during WWII, she was laid up and remained idle for several years, until finally in 1948 the US Government sold her at auction and the highly decorated USS Barnett, ex MS Santa Maria was officially purchased by the well known Italian Multi Millionaire ship owner Mr. Achille Lauro on April 13, 1948. Soon she headed for a Baltimore shipyard where she received some work to ensure that her engines that had been shut down for a considerable time, were back in full working condition. When the work had been completed she was certified for her delivery voyage to Italy! Letter - from Alwyn Marshall Toolamba to Wal Jack, Alwyn Marshall, 1958 & 1959
Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world. This set are two letters from Alwyn Marshall of Toolamba, who travelled extensively. His first letter discusses tramways in Sydney, the type of trams in use, Brisbane tramways, NSW Railways on the Sydney to Brisbane line, Queensland railways, the Sandy Hollow line and the wooden trestle bridge near Nayook. He used a motor bike for his Australian travels.
