The State Electricity Commission of Victoria constructed the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme in the north east of Victoria. Mr R.M. Duncan prepared the notes. He was a member of the S.E.C. Kiewa Branch from 1949 - 1966. This book was commissioned by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. It consists of the early history of the Bogong High Plains and the origin of names of places and creeks in the area.This book was researched in 1968 by Mr R.M. Duncan who worked for the S.E.C. on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme from 1949 to 1966. His sources were the Melbourne Public Library, the Victorian Historical Society, the North Eastern Victorian Historical Society and the Dept. of Crown Lands & Survey, Melbourne. The book is an accurate history of the Bogong High Plains given the available records at the time. No. 1 Pipeline heads down the mountain from McKay Power Station (the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme) and can be seen from the Falls Creek Rd.. The pipeline is 1635m long. It was built on the mountain rather than as a tunnel inside the mountain - "It was argued that a pressure pipeline on the surface, while not actually cheaper than the tunnel could possibly save one year in construction time.'The document is a report on the welding involved on the No. 1 pipeline. J. M. Scott was the welding inspector for the SECV on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The SECV's Home Advisory Service prepared this booklet to advise & inform women on the use of cooking with a fully automatic oven. The SECV sold electrical appliances at their showrooms throughout regional Victoria, one of which was located in Mt Beauty.The SECV constructed the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme employing many workers. They built the townships of Bogong and Mt Beauty and assisted with the infrastructure required to support the influx of population. In the Mt Beauty shopping centre, one of the shops was the SEC Showroom which sold electrical appliances and gave advice on their use. This booklet gives advice and information on automatic ovens. The State Electricity Commission of Victoria was established in 1918 and the State Government appointed “Electricity Commissioners” responsible for generation and distribution of electricity throughout the State. The Electricity Supply Department was a part of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. This invitation was for the opening of the new district offices and showroom of the Electricity Supply Department. It took place on February 19 1965 at 2.30 p.m. in Orbost and was opened by Cr C.T. Truscott ( Charlie) who was the president of Orbost Shire. This item reflects a significant event in Orbost's history.A shiny white rectangular card with red print.
