Ephemera - Ticket/s, Waller & Chester, Block of 100 tickets - 1/, Jan 2024
Ticket block headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On the rear in green ink are details of the Ballarat Tramway Museum, web address and that the organisation is a volunteer operated. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. Ticket Numbers 191001 to 192100. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. The 1/- tickets are used for Adult passengers, to save printing new tickets each time the fares changed. Commenced used end Jan. 1991. See Reg Item 5964 for the fourth run of the 1/- and 6d tickets and 1622 for the first run. Printed by Waller & Chester Ballarat Jan. 2024Demonstrates the Museums phasing out of tickets priced for the actual fare and conversion to a universal ticket that does not have to be changed for a fare increase. The bell from the final tram, Tram No. 34, to run on Lydiard Street North in 1971. Demonstrates a conductors communication or signal bell made for use on tramcars. A reminder of the network of trams that existed in Ballarat. Brass Conductor Communication Bell consisting of cast frame, bell pull part, one nut to secure the bell to the frame and two rivets securing for the bell pull part. Displayed in wooden frame with brass plaque. Stamped at one end with "48" "1". Equipment - Part of overhead - corroded span wire, 2024
Items show two different wire terminations - fully wrapped - 7 wires and part wrapped and secured by bending the wire. Shows how the galvanized span wire - 7 strands - can corrode within the insulator and lead to failure if not inspected and replaced. The items were probably erected by the SEC during the mid 1930s and replaced by the BTM 2024. Salvaged from Wendouree Parade during overhead span wire replacement and repair work March 2024 undertaken by the BTM. Item show corrosion of part of the eye bolt that supports the overhead in Wendouree Parade that has occurred primarily around the screw thread. Also shows how the span wire is terminated around a thimble that is fitted to the eye bolt. The item was probably erected by the SEC during the mid-1930s and replaced by the BTM 2024. Salvaged from Wendouree Parade during overhead span wire replacement and repair work in March 2024 undertaken by the BTM. Currency - Australian One Dollar Note, Gordon Andrews, 1966-1984
Circulated between 1966 and 1984, the one dollar bank note was issued following Australia's switch to decimal currency. It was later replaced by the dollar coin. Legal tender throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and the territories of the Commonwealth. Issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia, with the signatures of both the Governor of the Reserve Bank (J.G.Phillips), and the Secretary to the Treasury (R.J.Randall) noted on the obverse. Australian one dollar notes carry individual serial numbers.Demonstrates the one dollar note as it was circulated in Australia between 1966 and 1984. It represents currency used by Ballarat passengers to pay their tram fares, and received by SEC Ballarat Tramway crews/staff in wage packets.Orange, yellow and brown minted note on white treated paper. The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth the II, the Australian Coat of Arms and the "1" denoting value.
