The conductor is adjusting the trolley pole it is preparing to head back into the city, and the destination board is reading Sebastopol. The shelter at the terminus can be seen, and there is a female passenger in hat and coat walking away from the tram. The photographer says this was taken on the last of the last tram to run in Lydiard Street in 1971. Sign - galvanised steel sheet with a baked white enamel paint finish and overlaid with a reflective white and red "Stop" and two walking legs to warn motorists that a pedestrian or passenger was about to leave or board a tramcar. Fitted to the folding doors of Z, A and B class tramcars mid to late 2000's?. It replaced a larger green fold out sign with an image of pedestrians and the word "stop" on it. Sign has not been used. A Legacy ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance. It is one of the annual "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students" events, usually held just prior to ANZAC Day. The ceremony provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of the Anzac spirit, the significance of the Shrine and the meaning of Anzac Day. One frame shows Legatee Sullivan walking with a dignitary (possibly the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria Sir John Young). L/ Sullivan was President of Legacy in 1991 so the date is assumed to be 1991. The proof sheet contains images of the service, the crowd, a fly post of 4 aircraft in formation, a Legatee speaking from a podium with the Legacy banner around it, and students laying a wreath at the Cenotaph. The photos relate to a collection re Robert O’Donahoo No 1399 AIF WW1. Refer Cat No 1500 for his service history. .1) Robert is the soldier with the arrow pointing down to him. On the rear of the card is a letter to his Mother which appears to be dated Oct 22nd 1915. He tells his mother about a 2nd operation on his leg that was amputated. Sister West is the Nurse behind him and the other is Sister Raymond. .2) The Hospital where Raymond was admitted to in England. .3) On the rear of the Post card in pen, “twin Sisters UREN who were on the Hospital ship Thermistocles on the way home in 1916, they lived in Adelaide. .4) Robert O’Donahoo is the Soldier standing on the left, on the rear of the photo in blue pen, “Caulfield Hospital 1916” The twin Sisters were Catherine Temby UREN, Amelia UREN. Colin Jackson, Phil Harrison and Garry Snowden were in Parliament House, Canberra, on the evening of 20 August 1996, to hear the Budget Speech by the new Federal Treasurer, Peter Costello MP, who announced: “…the Government will provide $42 million over the next three years to establish the Green Corps. The Green Corps will be open to young Australians aged 17 to 20 to demonstrate their commitment to the environment by working on projects to preserve and restore Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage. The projects will also contribute to their career and employment prospects through training, skills development, work experience and personal development.” Soon after, the Commonwealth advertised a tender for a manger for the new program. Phil Harrison orchestrated a flurry of faxes between Brisbane and Ballarat, as Colin Jackson, Madeline Townsend, Garry Snowden and John Fenton fine-tuned the document. National reach and credible record won ATCV the job to administer and manage Green Corps for the whole of Australia for five years (1997-2002) was won in November and the contract was signed on the eve of Christmas, 1996. At the national launch of Green Corps – Youth for the Environment held in sweltering Adelaide on 12 January 1997, Colin Jackson assure the responsible Minister, Senator Amanda Vanstone, that thirty six projects were already in place and that recruiting was going well. Those who were there recall with awe the remarkable celebration that was the National Green Corps Conference on 21-24 February 1998 in Canberra. One hundred and one participants representing 71 past and current teams from around Australia, Treasurer Peter Costello, three other Commonwealth Ministers, and several “captains of industry” were on hand. Board member Sue Campbell remembers feeling “deeply moved” when Travis Schicchitano explained to the audience how much joining Green Corps had meant to him. Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and was awarded a gold medal for the highest marks in the ALCM examinations in the British Colonies at the age of seventeen years. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The Frank Wright Medal at the Royal South Street competition is awarded to an individual recognized as making an outstanding contribution to brass music in Australia.1).
