Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 200 tickets - light red ink on off white paper, original denomination 5c, lettered A 185600 to A 185799, headed Ballarat Tourist Tramway and over stamped "CHECK TICKETS NO CASH VALUE". The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple. See also Reg. Item 2306 for over stamped 5c tickets using a different stamp. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets originally printed for general use on the trams 1974. Article written by Mariza Fiamengo noting that the Lake tourist tram is under threat because of the large increase in Public Liability insurance. Also quotes BTM Secretary Peter Winspur. Item followed the January 2003 issue of Fares Please! article concerning public liability insurance. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block with one remaining ticket - red ink on off white paper, denomination 2d, over stamped in black "Concession" numbered 685999A, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a plain cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a off white coloured cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in red ink while the ticket number itself is in black ink. On rear in red ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. Has an association with the donor's father.Colour ink jet printed photograph and enlarged photograph of an ESCo tram ticket No. Z 6564, 3d cash fare, up and down directions to specific destinations on the ticket - light brown colour. Donated by Peter Henry 22/4/14 who advised in a phone call on 26/6/14. Story behind the ticket. Peter Henry’s father was involved in the CFA and travelled to Ballarat for the Hose and Reel competitions that were regularly held. He was with the Warburton CFA at the time. Has badges for Geelong 1936 and Bendigo 1930, so ticket would have been in the 1930’s. Peter now lives at Linton. Used at Ballarat School of Mines and Industries. The Melbourne Junior Technical School opened in 1912. It was a School for Junior Technical Work in Science, Art and Trade. This Prospectus gives information about the aim of school, courses of study, scholarships, standards of admission, holidays, evening classes, regulations, rules, sports, staff, advice to students and parents, railway and tram fares and syllabuses of work. As this was the first year of the School, Staff were introduced and their previous positions were detailed. Head Master was Mr P McCormick who had been head of the Junior Technical School at the Working Men's College. The Senior Master was Mr Bruce who had also been at the Working Men's College. Mr Hauser was selected for his position at the Education Department and would be the English Master. Mr Gilmore was the Art Master and had been at the Working Men's College. Mr Lewis was appointed Mathematical Master. He was a graduate from Melbourne University. The Science Master was Mr R A White and was an instructor at the Junior Technical School, Bendigo School of Mines and Industries. Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard, one of which has actually been used to send a message. Has a strong association with the people who sent and received the card.608 - Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.11162 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Mino Loveday Hutchins c/o P.O> Queenscliff. No date. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Souvenir 608.1 - as above, numbered 11308, has been punched on lower edge near right hand corner. Has been used as post card to a person in Alexandria?, but rear has been eaten by silverfish or similar. Did have a date stamp of "28-8-0?" See also Reg Item 2488, page 28 for ticket number 1595. Details the operation of the Melbourne Tramway system prior to the introduction of the then new Z class trams, in the final decade of the MMTB, its operations, track, training, management, power supplies, tickets and other operational systems. Includes notes on services, tramcar fleet allocation, depots, fare sections and running times. Has introduction by author looking at Melbourne compared to other tramway systems around the world at the time and acknowledgements. Two copies held. Set of two fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 22mm diameter - dark brown celluloid - with words "Melbourne & Metropolitan" on circumference and "Tramways Board" in centre of token. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at to the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. Both sides have a edge lining border about 1mm from the outer edge. Record updated following a query and being advised of an article in The Argus 1-4-1924 - see Reg Item 3359 for a copy. Item probably dates from c1920, phased out 1924.
