In preparation for the construction of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's new building at 263-265 Kooyong Rd, Elsternwick, an event was held on the 8th of December, 1993, to commemorate the pegging of the site. In this photo, Dr Leslie Koadlow (AFV founder) and Bill Dix (Chairman of the Appeal Committee) remove the brown paper covering a large advertising billboard. Also depicted in the photo are John Sullivan (Manager of Trusts at Perpetual Trustees), Alan Sime (Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, partially obscured), and one unidentified man holding a colour illustration of the proposed new building. Was the building of Morrissey Butchers established in 186512.5cm x 20cm black and white photograph of 61-63 Sydney Street Kilmore. The building look to have been separated into two stores, the left storefront looks original and the right storefront look to have been retrofitted. The roof of the building has a decretive trim and a arch which says "B.M Morrissey 1865 Established". This calls to the building original owners which used the building as a Butchers. The retrofitted side of the building was being used as a Butchers at the time of the photograph, E & G Fanger Butcher.Written on the back: 112/58 B. These documents relate to the sale of land in Merri Street Warrnambool in 1959 by Swintons Pty Ltd of Warrnambool. The buyer of the land was George O’Grady, a Warrnambool baker. The land sold for £4000 and there was a shed on the land (called the ‘Office’) which George O’Grady indicated he wished to be included in the sale. William and Ann Swinton migrated to Australia in 1854 and for a decade William Swinton worked as a builder and carpenter in the Warrnambool area, erecting many buildings, including the Wangoom Presbyterian Church. In 1865 he opened a store in Timor Street Warrnambool, selling groceries, hardware, china and glassware. By 1888 the business was known as William Swinton and Sons. Branch stores were opened in Wangoom, Cudgee, Nullawarre, South Warrnambool and West Warrnambool. After William Swinton died his son Robert became the first managing director of Swintons Pty Ltd. In 1934 the business split with George Swinton and Sons selling clothing, furnishings and glassware and Swintons Pty Ltd selling seeds, produce and hardware. Today the Swinton family still operates a furniture and bedding shop in Timor St Warrnambool.These items are of some interest as being connected to the Warrnambool business of Swintons Pty Ltd. They will be of interest to researchers. The Governor and his wife Lady Murray attended the Anzac commemoration ceremony for students that Legacy hold annually. Date was 1984 when Legatee Dean was president of Legacy. From the note it seems he gave his Presidential badge back to Melbourne Legacy. Legatee M.J.G Tonkin was president in 1952. Every month Legacy's handicapped dependents are invited to go on outing for take part in recreational and educational activities. These programmes aim to develop independence and thus lessen the need for reliance on others for simple routine functions. Once a year there is a two week camp, this is believed to be Somers School Camp. These photos are from 1992. An article in the widows' newsletter in 1992 explains more detail on the 1992 camp. The article mentions that the annual camps run for two weeks at Somers Camp. It is a wonderful gathering of Junior Legatees, Legatees, and dedicated helpers. 50 junior legatees attended this camp (in 1992) with the personal attention almost one-to-one. With ages ranging from 22 to into the 60s, Legacy has to ensure it caters for the differing needs. Legatees headed by Camp Chief, Jim Hammon and Chairman of the Handicapped Dependents Committee, Merv Tickell, were supported by two Camp Co-Ordinators and 50 helpers known as 'leaders'. Many of the leaders are people in the workforce wishing to give something back to the community. Junior Legatees are organised into groups. They participate in horse-riding, swimming, golfing, strawberry picking, and many other activities. Made at Bogong Village by a Swiss Carpenter. Used by Sylvia Hogan-Edwards (nee McMahon). a student at Bogong Primary School in 1941 as an 8 year old. She has included a photo of a group of skiers at the School at Howmans Gap dated 26th July 1946. This photo was also in the Sun Newspaper. Sylvia is wearing a 'pixie hat'. Sylvia says she was 11 years old which would make it 1944. Photo is located in Photo Folder Snow Sports.Wooden cross country snow skis with steel bindings shaped to attach, with 6 screws, to the wooden ski and to hold on the sides a ski boot to slide in. It has remnant leather strap bindings attached to the steel to hold the ski boot. There is a woven cotton tie strap holding the pair of skis together.

In 2016 the Welcome to Eltham community project started to welcome Syrian refugees into the community and made Welcome Butterflies to say welcome to them. This book includes photos and welcome messages from local residents. The butterlies are based on the Eltham Copper Butterfly, a rare and precious species local to the area and considered a symbol of the beauty and abundance of Eltham that the community wanted to share with the new community. Widows are conducting a sale of craft items in a shopping arcade. It is possible the items sold were those made for the annual Art and Craft Exhibitions. Widows would hold a stall in Badge Week, often outside Legacy House to sell items. The Legacy signs say "Legacy caring for Australia's biggest family". The trading tables are outside a Boyles Sweets shop and a Franklins No Frills supermarket. Boyles Sweets closed down by July 1993 so it was before then. Photos of a Legacy gathering at the Legacy Garden of Appreciation that later has the 'Widow and Children' statue installed (1998). The Garden is in a cruciform shape and is on the eastern side of the Shrine Reserve near Birdwood Avenue. It was formerly called the Garden of Memory (1980-1986 - according to Monument Australia website, which also says "The poppies that bloom in the garden are from seeds taken from Villers-Bretonneux in France."). Date of these photos is unknown but could be in the late 1980's when the garden was renamed the Legacy Garden of Appreciation.
