Main cutting titled "Nine trams may be kept in Ballarat", from The Courier Ballarat, 18/8/1971 (can read date through the back paper), about the number of trams to be kept in Ballarat, the BTPS, removal of the overhead. Other cuttings note the provision of bus stops in Ballarat, a hail storm the previous day (Friday 17/8/2005), floods, the derailment of a tram while on a tour for the Ballarat North Technical School, employment of those employees who had been retrenched and two letters re the replacement of the trams, including the aims of the BTPS to operate in Wendouree Parade. Five page handwritten letter on light brown or fawn lined paper within a brown envelope within Reg. Item 2488, page 105. The envelope has been glued to the back cover of the book and is address to "Mr. James Inspector / Electric Supply". Seven overseas stamps have been stuck to the envelope. The letter dated 11/10/1937 from an unknown person who lived at 305 Eyre St Ballarat, not signed, outlines the building the horse tram depot in Wendouree Parade. The person put in a quote as the plumber. Notes various aspects of working on the site, materials, difficulties, Thompson and Moore of the Adelaide as the contractors, number of people on the job, problems with the construction, wind damage, building the workers cottages, their rooves and the cash boxes for the conductors. Block mounted, black and white (sepia toned) photo of Ballarat Horse Tram No. 1 outside the Wendouree Parade depot, late 1887, with 16 workmen standing or lying around the tramcar. Builders Photo. Tram is lettered "BALLAARAT TRAMWAY CO LIMITED". A sign on the advertising board says "Duncan & Fraser, Builders, Ballaarat". The men around the tram are dressed in trade clothes, including carpenters, painters and blacksmiths. Newspaper cutting from The Courier, Ballarat 19/6/1972 of the moving of tram 26 into the depot. Has photo of tram 26 being moved into the depot using steel channels and rails on their side. Also Bob Davies crane in photo assisting with move. The method of moving 26 was slow and difficult, having derailed it at the depot access road and dragged it up the road and then onto steel channels pushing it into the shed. Information to members for June-July 1972 gives the moving date as 16 June and completed on 17 June. The other trams were not moved until temporary track had been laid between the depot and the kerb in Wendouree Parade, roughly along the same route as the depot access track. The September 1972 issue gives full details of the move and the date. The photo was taken on Sat. 17 June. See Reg Item No. 1858 for Courier Print of the photo. Included in the catalogue worksheet is a letter seeking the permission to use the photo in the Museum's Fares Please! and the reply of The Age, seeking payment of $93.50. Was not published. Article contains story of the Ballarat tramways, the establishment of the Museum, closure and statement from Richard Gilbert, General Manager of the BTPS. Article written by John Dyall. Notes that the depot extension is to be "officially opened today" and that coupons are printed in the newspaper, giving free rides for the day. Shows the nature of the clothing worn by the depot staff, and one of the crew and the interior detail of the one of the tramcars at the time.
