Looks at the life and work of John Garibaldi Roberts a supporter of the Arts and Chief Accountant of the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co (MTOCo) and later the manager of the cable tram system for the MMTB. He retired in 1923. Has photos of the family, John at his work desk in 1910 and the directors of the MTOCo. Item written by Caleb Cluff of The Courier. One of Roberts guests was C J Dennis, who wrote Songs of the Sentimental bloke" while staying at Roberts place in the Dandenongs which had been formed from disused horse buses. Flag that could be mounted on wooden dowel for use on Melbourne tramcars. Flag made from nylon or a similar synthetic, sewn into a white nylon circular section and then slipped over the dowel and stapled into position with words "100 years of trams". Photos shows a Melbourne, MMTB, double-deck bus painted in an all-over livery for the Buy Bonds Let's fill the 3rd Liberty Loan - World War 2 campaign. Has images of Winston Churchill and Australian Prime Minister John Curtain on the side of the bus. The bus is a Leyland TD5c type. In the background is a bus with a James Motors 1925 body, which were remounted on K6 International chassis in 1942 - 1943. Photographed at North Fitzroy Depot. These buses were used to replace the cable trams in Bourke St from October 1940. John Curtain became Prime Minister on 7 October 1941 and died on 5 July 1945. Bell Chairman of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board on his overseas trip March - October 1938". Dated 31/1/1939. He was accompanied by Mr. R. A. Spencer the Board Secretary. Reg Item 3875 indicates that their wives travelled as well with them. Has an index, notes on his visits to five cities on his voyage to England, visits to 10 UK cities, Berlin, Paris and 12 USA and Canadian cities. Includes notes on buses, gas-producer engines, PCC trams, closure of tramways, technical notes, trolley buses, conversion of Bourke St cable tram routes, overhead, motors, engines and many other topics. Wooden Wax Sealing stamp - wood handle with a small brass stamp with the letters "R.Ty." and "I" or "1" underneath. See e-mail message from Andrew Cook dated 3-2-2019, Andrew advised "That is a wax seal (see attached image of a modern day one). You can still buy them to this day.
