Significant in being a receipt issued by the Union to a driver showing that he paid his union dues for the following four weeks. Printed specifically for a defined period. Shows the importance attached to being a union member and the method of collecting dues, especially printing receipts for a specific date.Pink colour receipt from the Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employee's Association Ballarat Branch dated 11 Jan 1968 written by R. Courtney as Collector giving membership to 8th Feb. 1968. The 8th Feb. 1968 date printed onto the receipt. The receipt date "11 Jan" and. " R. Courtney" stamped on red ink. Name of member "J. Set of 12 views of Ballarat printed with six photos on either side of a folded strip of paper contained within a heavy brown paper folder. Published by the Rose Stereograph Co. of Armadale Vic., titled "Rose Series Picturesque Views of Ballarat Australia". Front cover has address area, stamp position, a drawing of roses and publishers details. 1. "The Town Hall and Sturt St. " with two trams eastbound in Sturt St. The first tram is a Sebastopol type tramcar. (see image 4) 2. "Eureka Memorial" 3. "The Conservatory" 4. Has Morris Manufacturing Company building in the background. Both horse trams, No.9 nearest to camera, have "Havelock" Tobacco roof advertisements. Yields information about No. 25 (one of the best side on photographs of this tram) and the fitting or trial of roof advertisements that was a prominent feature of SEC trams from the late 1950's onwards. Noted in an actual photograph, only one roof advertisement fitted.Black and white print of a photograph of No. 25 in the SEC Ballarat depot yard fitted with two blank advertising boards on the roof. Understood prepared to give details to prospective advertisers or to show management how arrangements could be made. Advised by Ron Scholten on 2/12/2013, that "Alan Davis (Vic) Advertising" was the SEC's advertising agent and it has long been defunct. Photo taken late 1950's. One of a few good photographs of No. 25 prior to going to Bendigo in October 1960. See Reg Item 2312 for a photograph of this tram with one roof advertisement c1960. Negative No. N379 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat No. 21 at the City terminus, with Gardens via Sturt St. West destination. Tram has been painted with tiger strips on bumper bar and under destination box, and a white stripe painted over the car under number under the windscreen. Additional lights and cover yet to be fitted. Car is fitted with plain weather blinds. Photo by Travis Jeffrey, 1960. Travis advised that the driver could be Max Green, ex ESCo employee, Brother in Law of Mrs Gwen Kellett. Has the Commonwealth bank and National Mutual building in the background and Berry Anderson printers. On front of tram is an advertisement for Mutual Homes. Date of photo on folder 28/9/1961. This date appears to be incorrect, as Reg Item 417, Wal Jack photo of 2/1/61 shows the tramcar in the same stage of conversion. Probably taken 12/1960 or 1/1961. Large print of this photo made for display 1995c. Item updated when negative added to collection - 11/5/2003. Original negative rescanned 24/5/2020 and image file updated.
