Programme of a Legacy Demonstration at the Melbourne Town Hall on 13th and 14th September 1963. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall. William George Pyke enlisted in the 1st reinforcements 21st Batt AIF on 8.4.1915 No 1565 age 33 years 4 months. He was hospitalised at Anzac was returned to Australia and discharged medically unfit on 13.3.16. Classed “Asthma. He re enlisted again on 30.4.17 No 4869 in the 13th reinforcements 29th Batt then transferred to the 38th Batt on 1.1.1918. He was gassed severely on 11.8.18. The rug was made at Albion Mill in Geelong. It was owned by Mr Angus Peter and Ms Mary Anne Downie, the parents of Mary Virr (the donor). They lived in Cobden. Several items were given by a seafarer, Mr Nicholas Garlick (1926-2009) into the care of Father Brady who retired from St Pauls Cathedral, Melbourne in 2018. Father Brady later donated the collection of; objects, documents and an extensive collection of cruise ship menus (1937-end of 20thC) to the Mission via the intermediary William Hastie, volunteer at the Mission for Seafarers. This particular item provides an example of a ticket for a Greek ferry the 'Apostolis' boarded on the 13th August 1949 by Mr Garlick's sister.This ferry pass for the Greek ferry 'Apostolis' is made of thin, cream-coloured paper. On the front of the ticket the official details are printed in Greek. The passenger details are hand-written in Greek. On the back is a note written by Mr Garlick. Front; see image for details. Postcard original Congregational Church Scallan St. Stawell with picket fence and double gateway. Postcard No 21. The church in this photograph was built in 1874 and opened on Sunday September 13th. The Rev. S.C. Kent, of Melbourne was the Preacher. The building was intended to accommodate 250 people. The cost, exclusive of the land was 800 pounds. The building was designed and supervised by Rev J.G. Wilson. The Church was the first to be lit with gas in Stawell. Note gas light on the porch. The folder containing the photograph of Sergeant Huf's grave in Egypt was sent to his father. The card is inscribed 'Cpl' but Huf had been promoted to Sergeant just prior to his wounding and evacuation from Gallipoli on HMT "Royal George". He died of his wounds at sea and was buried in Egypt. This folder was part of a collection of items donated to Albury RSL by his surviving sister Miss Edna Huf of Albury about 1970 and passed to the 8/13th VMR Collection. Donated to the 8th/13th VMR Collection as part of a collection of regimental silver from the 20th Light Horse Regiment circa 1950. 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised following WWI as part of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade AMF. It had its HQ at Seymour and sub-units along the Goulburn Valley extending to Tocumwal in NSW. During WWII the regiment was motorised then served as infantry in Dutch New Guinea. It was the only light horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII.Is a representative example of a trophy from between the wars. The size, material and decoration show the relative affluence of the officers of a regiment from regional Victoria. The fact it carries no record of being awarded might indicate it dates from immediately prior to WWII when the regiment was mobilised and moved from its base area.Ornate silver cup with two handles intended for shooting competition in 20th Light Horse Regiment. Worn by VX45541 Lieutenant Louis A Jackson who served with 2nd/8th Armoured Regiment in Australia and New Guinea during WWII. Following its return from New Guinea in 1944, 2nd/8th Armoured Regiment had a change of role and was redesignated Numbers 41, 42 and 43 Landing Craft Companies and served in Pacific Islands till the end of the war. In 1947, Louis Jackson joined the Citizen Forces (CMF) and served as a captain in the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. This uniform is a well provenanced, representative example of WWII clothing as worn by an officer of an armoured regiment. This uniform was worn by Lieutenant Colonel D J Hunter OAM RFD when serving with the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. The Grantbank Estate was a parcel of land close to the centre of the shopping area of Bacchus Marsh which was sub-divided and offered for sale in 58 lots on the 13th September, 1924. It comprised an area of 15 acres, being a portion of the Millbank Estate which had been in the hands of the Grant family for 75 years. The lots had frontages to Gisborne Road, Patterson, William and Sutherland Streets. This was a significant sub-division of land and represented a major expansion of residential housing in Bacchus Marsh in the early 20th century.This land sale map is a typical example of housing estate land sales advertising maps produced by real estate agents in this era. “Warranooke” Homestead built 1867 enlarged 1926. Shows extensive gardens at front. A very early property in our district Warranooke The main names associated with the property Ayrey - Darnell - Nicoll, later Campbell. Mrs. Campbell built Charles Ayrey's daughter. The Campbells built up the station buildings. The homestead was virtually rebuilt in brick, making it one of the largest and most elaborate in the East Wimmera. The hotel was originally Webb's hotel, then Blunt's. Ambrose and Mary Murrell are believed to have bought the hotel c.1881/1882. (See report in the Ballarat Star, 13th December 1882). After Ambrose died in 1891, Mary Murrell continued to run the hotel, with the assistance of her daughter Caroline. In 1922 she sold the hotel to Mr. S. Cracknell, a Grenville Shire Councillor who lived at Scarsdale/Newtown.
