He opened his timber and saw milling yard in 1882. The factory was able to produce all types of fancy wood products to supply builders within a 100-mile radius of Bendigo. The lighthouse was moved from corner High and Neil Streets to the corner of Lawrence and Neil Streets in 1882 to be the new premises of Dr Johnston. It was later Glovers Boarding House. Warrnambool South Primary School was opened in 1877 and the first teacher was Mrs Eliza Clarke. Many of the trades of the early parents were occupations such as tanners, saddlers, wharf labourers and fishermen. The school celebrated its centenary in 1977 and was decommissioned around the 1990’s.The community of South Warrnambool was close knit and the school was a focal point of that community. The McDonald name has had a strong association with that community for over 100 years. The game of cricket was and remains an important part of sporting life. In 1882 the railway from Melbourne to Camberwell was extended to Lilydale, Blackburn Station was then known as Blackburn Greek Station and was opened on 2 December 1882. At this time the Lilydale line had only a single track. On 12 August 1889 Blackburn was designated as a 'crossing station' as it had 2 platforms. In 1891 a second line was added between Box Hill and Ringwood stations. Service termination at Blackburn began in the late 1890's due to the large number of passengers visiting the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary. The Lilydale line was electrified to Ringwood in January 1923. Automatic signalling reached Blackburn in 19568. Boom gates replaced hand gates in 1970. in 1980, the goods siding was removed and the old station was demolished.Coloured photograph of the south side of the Blackburn Station. Like many other at the time, the Camerons bred race horses.Harry died in 1964 aged 75.Hand saw with a skew-back, steel blade and a wooden handle. It has three metal saw pins and a medallion marked 'warranted superior'. There is a chip carved wheat sheaf decorating the front hand grip. Canon Gully is situated about 2 km upstream from the railway bridge at Rupertswood. In 1864 it was the site for the military encampment of the Victorian Volunteer Forces. William Clarke allowed the military to stage the annual event on his property. Beginning in 1877 as a breakaway from the Ancient Order of Foresters the Irish National Foresters were established in Australia before 1890. By 1914 the INF had spread worldwide and with a quarter of a million members in over 1,000 branches.
