Used by donors for polishing wooden and lino floor in the 1950s and 1960s in their home at 16 McDowall Street, Mitcham.Three brush 'Electrolux' floor Polisher/ Scrubber with polish container and three scrubber brushes, and a remotely operated polish container. It has a 'tee' shape handle which is adjustable in height to polish under tables etc. There is provision for attaching a polish container to the polisher. Flow of polish ie regulated by a chain attached to handle. Handle also has clips for holding the power cord when stored. Body of polisher is squat triangular- shape finished in red and gunmetal grey. The Inhiband intrauterine device is a variety of the Grafenberg Ring. The Grafenberg ring was developed by Dr Ernst Grafenberg in the late 1920s. This coincided with the beginnings of the modern birth control movement. Grafenberg and Herbert Hall migrated to the USA during the Hitler era and brought with them the knowledge of the intrauterine ring. Herbert Hall developed a stainless steel version of the Grafenberg ring in 1949 and used it with select private patients in New York. A report on his results was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1962. The Inhiband product bears his name in brackets. The dispensing box and five remaining containers with Inhiband IUDs inside were from the Albert Street East Melbourne rooms of Dr Geoffrey Bishop. This contraceptive device was commonly used in the 1960s-early 1970s.White plastic container with clear plastic hinged lid and white plastic insert with slots for 10 individual containers of Inhiband IUDs. Contains five individual white plastic containers which hold Inhiband IUDs. "Calvert Model" hats were designed by Frank Tisdale. A Government Gazette of the State of New South Wales on Friday 7 September 1973 (No.117), page 3941, recorded that: "CALVERT MILLINERY PTY LIMITED (In Liquidation), formerly trading as Frank S. Tisdale.—A first and final dividend is intended to be declared in the above matter. If persons claiming to be creditors have not proved their debts or had their debts admitted by the liquidator by 24th September, 1973, they will be excluded from this dividend.—Dated this 3rd day of September, 1973. P. J. WOODWARD, Liquidator, 32 York Street, Sydney." Therefore the hat must predate 1973, and given that it is in the style favoured by the actress Audrey Hepburn (the style of the hat has been called an "Audrey") the hat probably dates to the 1960s.The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. Many of these items were purchased or handmade in Victoria; some locally in Kew. The extensive hat collection comprises items dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. While most of the hats in the collection were created by milliners for women, there are a number of early and important men’s hats in the collection. The ladies are wearing finery and corsages which suggests that this may have been a post-marriage celebration following the wedding of Lillie and James Morgan. Their marriage certificate records the date as 26th of April, 1969.This is a photograph of social and historic significance, being part of a sub-collection of material that provides a snapshot of the type of individuals involved in the Ladies Harbour Lights Guild and the activities carried out by that organisation. This can opener was from the Vietnam War era. Utensils like this were issued with every ration pack to all servicemen and women.Utensils like this have social significance due to the ubiquity of their use in the field, therefore many Vietnam era veterans may have memories of their use. This item is in good condition and as such, is a representative example of a tool that was widely used. Spoon and blade opener, attached via a turned over piece of metal fashioned into a hinge below which there is a curved cut out with a point which attaches to the side of the can. Handle has two ridges presumably to aid handling of utensil. Punched hole (3 mm across) at end of handle possibly to attach via a string.
