A similar photo is labeled Somers Camp so this was one of the very early camps using tents, before buildings were erected. In the early years of Legacy outings and camps were organised at the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring close to the beach. Permanent camp buildings were built in 1930, and with an association with Lord Somers (Governor of Victoria) it was called Somers Camp. The Church Hall was located next door in Highbury Grove. On amalgamating with the Uniting Church the buildings became redundant and are now the Kew Chinese Baptist Church.Original photograph from the 1930s that records the kinds of social and spiritual actions of church goers in Kew.Members of the cast of a performance take a certain call at the end of a performance. The item was part of a group of photos relating to the Kew Presbyterian Church, so it may show a performance in which members of the church participated or led. The location of the performance is unclear; it might be at the Kew Recreation Centre or in the Kew Presbyterian Church Hall. Intriguingly, what look to be bunya bunya pines appear in the distance above the proscenium. The photograph was originally identified as possibly being the Kew Light Opera Company, however the photograph precedes its foundation. From an article in the Widows' Newsletter in July 1991 it is a Grand Reunion at Watsonia Army Barracks in May for former Junior Legatees. Over 350 people attended. There were games for children, spit roasts and the renewing of friendships between former Junior Legatees and the Legatees. An article in the Herald Sun on Friday 17 May 1991 promoted the event using a photo of Ron Barassi and L/ Chas Munnerley mentioned the reunion was Sunday 19 May (item 01529). More photos are at 01610. It was with a group of photos from 1990/91 in a folio with paper labels. Ticket circular - giving travel arrangements and meeting point at Flinders St. Station. 2. Victorian Railways "S" circular, number S.2515/73 advising of a BTPS excursion from Morwell to Mirboo North on Thursday 27/9/1973 (Showroom Day). Noted that a BW carriage to be attached to the Mirboo North goods at Traralgon at the rear in front of the brake van, pick up passengers at Morwell, the train to Mirboo North would have an altered schedule, passengers would travel to Morwell by the 7.20am passenger ex Melbourne and return by the Gippslander ex Morwell, that passengers would have specially printed tickets and signed by J. C. Crute as Chief Traffic Manager. Issued on 24/9/1974. Printed on foolscap size paper. 3. Jack Grinton is first on left in the top row. we are reasonably confident that we have identified several others. They are: Top row, 1st on the right No 262 CSM W.J. Durward (Bendigo). 2nd row, 2nd on left No 1612 Sgt J.E. Adams (Boinika) 3rd row, 1st on left No 446 CSM A. Clark (Abbotsford) 3rd row, 3rd from right No 1192 Sgt J. Coffey (Fitzroy) 3rd row, 2nd from right No 1194 Sgt J. Lockett (Mildura) Bottom row, 1st on left No 1048 Sgt F. Lehman MM (Horsham) Bottom row, 3rd on left No 1645 Sgt W. Hogan MID (Newport) These men would be a mixture of C and D Coy, 38th Batt. In Oct 1918 the 37th and 38th Batt's were so depleted that both were combined. A and B Coy 38th became C Coy and C and D Coy 38th became D Coy. The 37th Batt became A and B Coy, 38th Batt. Photo 2. Cartoon "Huttons the Best" with sign post either way. Handwritten notes from Southern Cross newspaper, 08/05/1909 and 10/04/1909 about meetings to establish the club, into lists of office-bearers. Three photocopies of a group photo of members of the E.D.B.C., undated but probably 1910-14. No caption but verse of one copy states Early Days E.D.B.C. Photocopy of one page from 500 Victorians, Centenary Edition, 1934, on Arthur Apps, J.P. “Mortician” with cartoon portrait, noting that he is now associated with the Elsternwick District Bowling Club. Mounted photograph of Opening Day of the Elsternwick District Bowling Club 1934, handwritten on the reverse, of the raising of the flag for new club building. Mounted photograph of Elsternwick District Bowling Club Opening Day. Previous label on file states that it shows the presentation of a small trophy “Kitty” to Mayor H.C.H. Smith and Mayoress on opening day 1934. Photocopy of printed R.S.V.P. invitation from Elsternwick District Bowling Club for meeting of Official Opening of the Green and 75th Anniversary of the Club Opening 31/08/1984. The page states that the original Invitation in file 1204A with note on back. Ten mounted original colour photographs on five pages of Opening of the Green, presumably 31/08/1984 but no date is given, of presentations and speeches by office-bearers and photographs of members, identified by handwritten names written under each photograph.
