These paddle steamers were accompanying the P.S Adelaide back to the Echuca Wharf after being re-launched on 03/04/1984. The P.S Adelaide had been displayed in the Hopwood Gardens since 1960, and the City of Echuca Mande a decision to launch the paddle steamer back into the river to be used as a working tourist attraction. This photograph relates to P000059.3, P000060.3, P000061.3, P000062.2, P000063.3, P000071.This photograph is significant as it shows the state of the Echuca Wharf in 1984. It also shows the state of the P.S Adealide after sitting idle for so many years. A collection of nine postcards donated by the Bass Coast Op Shop. Information on the back of No. 276-05. "Koala Bears were first seen by white explorers in the Blue Mountains, 1798. Early colonists from N.S.W. called it a "monkey bear". Koala means in Aboriginal "does not drink" or "no drink". They are slow-moving, tree-climbing, friendly marsupials with thick woolly fur coats, large ears and rubber nose. They live in gum trees and feed upon their leaves. Ordained 1941. Placements: Foster, Latrobe, (Leave of absence 1946–1975), Burnie 1976, Mersey, 1977–78, deceased June 1998. During 1946–75 Duthie was a Member of the Federal Parliament. Gilbert William Arthur "Gil" Duthie AM (21 May 1912 – 13 June 1998) was an Australian politician. Born in Nhill, Victoria, he was educated at state schools and at the University of Melbourne before becoming a schoolteacher and farmer in rural Victoria. In 1938 he was ordained a Methodist minister, and in 1944 he moved to Latrobe, Tasmania. In 1945 and 1946 Duthie was directly involved with Australian rules football in the town. He was secretary of the Latrobe Football Club as well as playing senior games for it in the NWFU competition.[1] In 1946, Gil Duthie was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Wilmot, defeating sitting Liberal MP Allan Guy. From February 1956 until December 1972 he was the Labor Party Whip in the House. He held the seat until 1975, when he was defeated by Liberal candidate Max Burr.
