The 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment (AIF) was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in March 1915. Following service at Gallipoli the regiment was broken up with squadrons going to France as Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of 2nd, 4th and 5th Divisions. The regiment was reformed as firstly 1st Anzac Corps Mounted Troops and later Australian Corps Mounted Troops. The regimental association was formed following the return from the war and continued to meet regularly till early 1980s. Records and memorabilia were handed to the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles.Twenty editions of the Annual Report of the 13th Australian Light Horse Regimental Association. Established on 26th July 1919 this war medal was colloquially known as 'Squeak'. The medal was awarded to officers of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war or entered service overseas between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918. Approximately 6.5 million British War Medals were issued. Approximately 6.4 million of these were the silver versions of this medal. The front of the medal depicts the head of George V. The recipient's service number, rank, name and unit was usually impressed on the rim.Silver medallion with the front depicting the head of King George V and the back depicting a man on a horse on the top side. To honour the commitment of its staff, badges were awarded to commemorate years service. These consisted of the Vision Australia Foundation symbol of an eye (flat surface for the iris and areas immediately below and above the eye, and roughened surface for the background of the iris), in gold. Colour is into a fawn with stains and marks from handling. Creases from folding have left several small tears. The rear is blank with sticky tape holding the citation together at the folds.At the top of the Citation is a seal, blue in colour with the words, Govenor - General, Commonwealth of Australia. The centre coat of arms of the seal has fine writing which is unreadable. This gun sight was brought home from WWI (1914-1918) by members of the 13th Battery 5th Field Artillery Brigade (Albury Battery) as a souvenir of its action in the first battle of Bullecourt April 1917. On one occasion during the battle the Battery was surrounded by a German counter attack. They dragged their guns out of the gun pits and continued firing to the flanks and rear and supported the Australian counter penetration attack which restored the situation. After the war a recreational reserve in Albury NSW was named Noreuil Park after the French village near where the action occurred.A rare object with significant connection to Albury NSW and its citizen soldiers who served with the AIF in WWI (1914-1918). The engraving gives it close association with the recreational park in Albury named after the French village of Noreuil and honouring the soldiers who fought there with great courage. German records dated 4.6.1917 reported him captured at Thilloy on 2.3.1917 and he was imprisoned at Gefangenen lager Limburg A/Lahn Germany. Maurice arrived back in England on 19.12.1918. He was given leave and decided to make it longer and was let of a charge of AWL.
