This handbook is the 1964 edition of the Ballarat Teachers' College Handbook, a publication listing various details regarding various aspects about the Ballarat teachers college, in particular focusing on the important details for the school year for 1964. Included within is a foreword by the then-principal T. W. H. Turner, a history of the Ballarat Teachers' College, 1964, a course programme, a list of faculty staff,and a list of courses available.Ballarat Teachers' College logo recto and on 1st page. Apothecaries weights were historically used by physicians and pharmacists for the assembling of medical recipes (20 grains = 1 scruple; 3 scruples = 1 dram (drachm); 8 drams = 1 troy ounce). The coin weights were used up until about the 1940s. This coin is a stater, a 2 gram coin. The symbol for the dram was the number 3 and the letters ‘ij’ are equivalent to the Roman numerals 11 meaning two. The coin has the date March 16, 1847, the date of the registration of the coin.This coin has no known local provenance but a two-dram coin such as this would have been used by doctors and pharmacists in the Warrnambool district from the 1840s to the 1940s approximately. It will be useful for display.This brass circular weight with raised engraving has an annulus of very small dots close to the rim on the obverse and reverse sides. The P.S Nellie was 79.8 feet in length and 20.4 feet in breadth, and depth of 4.6 feet. It weighed 58 tons net and 66 tons gross. It was made of wood and had a capacity of 10 H.P. It was built at Moama in 1882 and was registered in Adelaide in 1882. Its registration number was No. 83,672. The P.S Nellie was owned by the River Murray N. Co. This photograph was taken in 1900. It looks like the P.S Nellie was a passenger paddle steamer, taking passengers up and down the rivers.Not much is known about the P.S. Nellie, but in this photograph it looks like it is a passenger paddle steamer, transporting people up and down the rivers.This is a photo copy of black and white photograph of the P.S Nellie. The photocopy was done in 1984. John Ingram, baker of Research and his wife Ada (nee Key) owned a holiday house at 9 Minifie Avenue, Anglesea. At some time between 1943 and 1949 they relocated permanently to Anglesea. It is difficult to make out the car (registration 155-405). It appears to be a roadster style with wooden spoke wheels and spare wheel mounted on boot. Typical of a 1928 Dodge roadster. The woman standing in front of the fence in a swimming suit, holding a towel and wearing a coat is unidentified. Photograph shows the MESCo Geelong bus that ran to East Geelong (see item 9004). Registration number 6765 outside the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. power station in Corio Terrace Geelong. The bus has been fitted with body bracing indicating a loose body when the photo was taken along with other body panel damage. This bracing is not apparent in the item 9004, possibly indicating shortly before it was withdrawn in 1923. Merrin (Chief Inspector). The owner is given as J. Cumming, Mundy St, Bendigo. The document states that the boiler can be used up to a pressure of 90 lbs. Information includes particulars of the boiler. Petrol rationing was gazetted in May 1941. Australia's lack of fuel storage options and the diversion of tankers bringing fuel here forced the government to begin rationing. Initially it was proposed that consumption should be reduced by 50% but this was modified to 1/3 reduction. People had to apply for a petrol licence and this was then used to obtain ration coupons. Initially coupons were issued on a 6 monthly basis but this was reduced to 2 monthly and allowed people roughly 2000 gallons per year. Coupons allowed for 1, 2, 5, 10, 44 and 100 gallon amounts depending on need. eg. private, commercial, farm use. Rationing was strictly enforced until 1942 but remained in effect until 1950.WWII One Gallon Fuel Tickets: 6 x cream card with blue flecks, perforated edges and red print. At the top in the centre is the Commonwealth Emblem and Motor Spirit Ration Ticket. Commonwealth Of Australia. Underneath is 1 One Gallon and Valid only until 31st May 1948. Not Transferable. This ticket must be endorsed in ink by consumer with name, licence number and vehicle registration number.
