Document - Manuscript, Robin Boyd, Current Architecture, c. 1970
This text summarises the differences in architecture and proposes, unlike in other art forms, that architecture has a mainstream which has consistency in it, yet is also ever changing. The term 'modern architecture' is becoming suspect and obsolete. Visual art is inevitably involved with social evolution. It discusses utilitarian and creative architecture. Boyd proposes architecture is between science and art, and that architecture by itself means the architecture of this age.Typewritten, quarto, 11 pages (Note: Mentions the 1960s, possibly implying it was written late 1960s-1970/1971)modern architecture, social evolution, utilitarian architecture, creative architecture, mcluhan era, glutternberg era, henry russell hitchcock, paul rudolph, philip johnson, kenzo tange, archigram, sydney opera house, reston, robin boyd, manuscript -

Document - Speech, Robin Boyd, Australia Fair?, c. 1965
In this handwritten text of a speech to the Victorian Fabian Society, Boyd addresses the question: Is Australia Ugly? He argues that the issue with Australian cities is primarily in the realm of urban design rather than architecture. Boyd outlines the types of ugliness in the urban domain, comparing attitudes to Australian cities to those elsewhere, particularly the United States.Speech to Victorian Fabian SocietyHandwritten, quarto, 15 pages, missing pages 11-16.victorian fabian society, george johnson, eric westbrook, steven murray-smith, fred ledgar, south eastern freeway, lyndon johnson, robin boyd, manuscript -

Article - Book review, Philip Johnson, The Puzzle of Architecture, Jun-66
This is a comprehensive and erudite review of Robin Boyd's book 'The Puzzle of Architecture' in a leading architectural journal. Robin Boyd’s desk cupboard contained two exercise books (item D482.1-D482.2) and assorted articles, essays and other material regarding the building of the Sydney Opera House, inserted inside the front cover of Walkabout magazine, July 1966 (item P1377). This publication is one of those inserts. Many of these were collected by Boyd’s eldest daughter, Mandie, who recalls that her father was writing a book, but was very disillusioned with the way the entire Opera House saga unfolded. book, A bucket full of berries: reflections on Whitehorse, 2000
This book was produced as part of a raft of community projects under the umbrella of COWCH (City of Whitehorse Community Houses) with funding from the federal government. The steering committee for the book worked with the management of the Vermont South Community House - Marjorie Morgan, Carol Pawsey, Val Eldridge, Sue Barnett, Anne Jones, Margaret Banks and Murray Lewis (editor).A collection of stories contributed either as written memoirs or drawn from oral histories that reflect the ways in which the contributors have been associated with the City of Whitehorse. Book, Bourke, Colin, Before the invasion, Aboriginal life to 1788, 1980
Blurb: Before the Invasion gives a vivid overview of traditional Aboriginal life. It describes what Aborigines wore, their houses, weapons, tools, canoes, and shows their practical ingenuity and resourcefulness in making the most of what their environment offered. It also covers families, clans, roles of men and women, attitudes to children and the old; and the religious world-view which determined the rhythm of their life and underlay all their laws art and music. The authors bring out the broad patterns Australia-wide, but they are careful to note the differences between groups in different areas and to give specific documented examples...112 p. : ill. ; 21 x 23 cm.Blurb: Before the Invasion gives a vivid overview of traditional Aboriginal life.
