Various invitations, programmes and other mementos collected from Legacy events held during the early 1960's. These include invitations and tickets to the Annual Demonstrations of 1960 and 1961, the ANZAC eve school children's ceremony, also to the Senior Widows Club Grand concert (18 December 1961). The Senior Widows club also held a Christmas Dinner. Also a lapel tag for the Legacy Mothers Club. There are also mementos for Junior Legatees, such as tickets to attend the Christmas party at Government House and to Operation Float in 1962 and 1963. A list of servicemen that were submitted for inclusion on the Junior Legacy Honour Roll. However the document mentions this list is of those 'for whom there was no "master card" or concerning whose entitlement to entry on the Roll there is some doubt'. There is a column for 'Here enter any known details'. The final Honour Roll lists junior legatees that served overseas in the armed forces, initially World War Two, and displayed in cabinets in Legacy House. The purple type implies it was made with a renostat form of printing so was a copy of the original document. The final page has a note to return the form to Junior Legacy. An inter-club memorandum advising of the Board's approval to establish a hostel for Junior Legatees, later to be known as Holmbush, and ultimately as Blamey House. Holmbush was the first residential accommodation operated by Melbourne Legacy, and was established in 1942. It accommodated boys aged between 9 and 19, usually attending secondary school. In 1956, Holmbush became known as Blamey House. It was located not far from another Legacy home, Stanhope (1245 Burke Road). Residents of Holmbush and other Legacy homes were the children of deceased ex-servicemen. Sometimes residents at Legacy homes were both children of ex-servicemen and wards of state. In 1956, Blamey House, another Legacy children's home formerly in Beaumaris moved into the Holmbush property in Kew, and it was renamed Blamey House. Location 1942 - 1956? A certificate typed on Melbourne Legacy letterhead to certify that the recipient had completed a leadership training course in August 1979. It meant the junior legatee was qualified to assist in the youth classes. It also mentions the Junior Legatee is entitled to what the 'Leader' badge on her uniform. Hence it was a leadership course for female junior legatees. This uncompleted certificate is unnamed and is not signed by the President, which was L/ W R Mehan in 1979, so it had not been awarded and could be a generic draft of a certificate for the files.A record that Legacy provided advancement opportunities for the girls in the classes. The table and chairs once belonged to the Officers' Mess, 24th Battalion. From 1928 - 1936 the CO 24th Battallion was Lt Col S.G. Savige, DSO MC. It was during this time that the chairs were made and used for dining-in nights. During the a ceremony of remembrance, each officer stood behind his chair and called the name on its back as a mark of respect for those KIA during WW1. At the inaugural meeting of the Club, from which arose Melbourne Legacy in September 1923, eight of the fourteen members had worn the colour patch of 24th Battalion.The connection to Savige and the fact that many of his officers from 24th Battalion became members of Melbourne Legacy. This table and its chairs were formally gifted to Melbourne Legacy on 9th May 1956 when the Club moved to Legacy House. They have been used since in the Club's Board Room, now located on level 1, Legacy House, 293 Swanston Street, Melbourne. Two Legatees were responsible for fully refurbishing the table and chairs - Legatee Gordon Beith (Morrabbin Branch) and Legatee Ted McKenzie (Footscray/Sunshine Branch) Board Room Table - Clear varnished timber table with a two piece glass top Table legs are turned timber on wheels x 5. Two at each end and one in the centre. Chairs - Clear varnished timber with leather cushions x 20. Each chair has an engraved plaque with an officer's name from 24th Battalion. Although undated, the document is the same type, style and condition as 00259, which was dated 1943. The care of children was a major part of Legacy work in the 1950s, many of whom would have lost their fathers in WWII. The minutes document the fostering of children by individual legatees, and their living conditions at Holmbush. It is clear that the children made do with whatever clothes could be afforded, and they were strongly encouraged to to study. This collection of 48 portrait photos details all Past Chairmen of the Legacy Cordinating Councils from 1937 to 2015. The majority of these Legatees were from Melbourne Legacy ranks. Film of the Trooping the Colour, in London. Including King George VI, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret on the Buckingham Palace balcony. The year is not known though it was pre 1952 when King George VI passed away. The reason for having the film is not known.
