Rev. James Harcourt (1866-1938) was the son of Rev John Harcourt. He was the first student of Queen's College to graduate at the University of Melbourne. He was a chaplain of Wesley College and a tutor at Queens College for six years. In 1909 he became Minister of Glendearg Grove Church in Malvern. Brown leather and gilt the inside is lined with watered silk on the left and a richly illuminated text on the right. The top has images of two churches and the borders are decorated with blue, yellow and red flowers. Presented to the Major The Honorable F. T. Sargood together with the V.R.A. Challenge Cup on 8 December 1876. The cup was competed for by all the volunteer corps in Victoria. The following extract is from The Argus (Melb), Sat 9 Dec 1876, page 9 https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/5912315 The second quarterly official inspection of the St Kilda Battery was held last night by Colonel Anderson. The gun drill was held in the orderly-room, and afterwards the corps was put through field movements in the drill around. At the termination of the inspection Colonel Anderson expressed his satisfaction at the manner in which the drill had been performed. Colonel Anderson then presented Major Sargood with the Victorian Rifle Association Challenge Cap, which had been won by the St. Kilda Battery three times. The cup has been competed for the last 12 years, and in that time the cost of the ammunition used in the contest and markers' fees amounted to about £3.000. The value of the cup is 20 guineas. An address to Major Sargood was then read by Captain Hearn. On receiving the cup Major Sargood said that he was afraid from the state of his health he would either have to retire from command of the battery, or obtain a long leave of absence. He said that six years ago he bad been presented with a sword which he wore that evening, and he was glad to see that there was no diminution of the goodwill then expressed towards him. These shoes were worn by Emily Cock (nee Smith), the daughter of wealthy early settler John Matthew Smith. From 1856 until 1931 the Smiths lived at 'Castlefield', a mansion on a vast estate that at one time stretched along South Road from Bluff Road to Hampton Street. The land was gradually subdivided, and the house is now a part of Haileybury College. Julien Mayer was a French ladies shoemaker and prolific exporter who advertised his successes on the shoes themselves by stamping the soles with details of the prizes he had won.Pair of black kid leather shoes with low block heel, decorated with pink silk, cut-away applique and embroidery. This outfit was worn by Kate Dabb for her wedding to Alf Meyer on the 6th of June 1900 at the Maldon Wesleyan Church. Kate was the 3rd daughter of Samuel Dabb.This dress is in two parts, a bodice and a skirt. Made of cream satin, mostly machine sewn with some hand sewing. The bodice is finely worked with applique panels of scrolls, petals and leaves decorated with glass beads and sequins. These are two vintage small cups, probably dating from early in the 20th century. They may have originally had saucers to match. Both cups have different inscriptions, and were likely given as a present to indicate friendship or love and other examples of the same type of cup have similar inscriptions such as 'Remember me' and 'Forget-Me-Not'. The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a Shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990. On 2 December 1994, with the creation of Greater Bendigo City Council, it was abolished through the amalgamation which took place between Bendigo City, Eaglehawk Borough, Huntly Shire, part of McIvor Shire, part of Metcalfe Shire and Strathfieldsaye Shire to form the City of Greater Bendigo. This embosser would have been used over the years by the local council authority. Decorated hand operated cast iron embosser with 50mm stamp head attached. This stamp and seal were collected by Kevin Ingram who cleaned up the Orbost Butter factory in 1981. It is possibly from the original factory in the 1890's.This seal was probably used on official letters.The Orbost Butter and Produce Co. Ltd was registered on June 1st 1893 and was an important source of income to the Orbost district.Cast iron stamp and seal. Stamp (.1) has a wooden handle which works by a lever action. The Geelong Glider Club was formed in June 1929 at a meeting held at the Belmont Common hangar of Percy Pratt. The club built a Zogling (Primary Glider) based on plans obtained from Germany and flew it off nearby hills at Lovely Banks and other places in the Geelong region. The checked rudder design (without logo and markings) is evident in a picture of a Geelong Glider Club Zogling flying at Tower Hill near Warrambool, Victoria, at Easter 1931 and this lends support to the conclusion that the rudder was part of the Club’s first glider. The logo and markings appear to be a more recent elaboration to the design. Exhibit is a historical link to the earliest gliding activities of the Geelong Glider Club.Fabric covered wooden framed primary glider rudder with metal levers decorated with silver and dark red checkered design. Slate pencils were used extensively in primary schools throughout The Netherlands.These pencils may have belonged to a child who attended school either towards the end of or post WWII when there was a scarcity of paper and books. Rectangular light green cardboard container which slides open to reveal 7 slate pencils. The lid is busily illustrated with scenes of English Victories on Sea and Land including Trafalgar and Waterloo. The upper halves of the slate pencils are covered in paper decorated with various designs.In the left margin of the picture are the words: "Designed in England". Underneath the Trafalgar scene is the quotation: "England expects that every man this day will do his duty." Under the Waterloo scene is the quotation: "Up Guards and at them!" Winnifred Gardiner Davies, 1875-1973, married Mr Jones.Silver card case and notebook, etched and decorated with fern leaves and an engraved inscription. The case has royal blue pockets with gold edging, celluloid index pages with a list of handwritten names and a silver propelling pencil is secured at the side.
