The photograph was taken in the 1920s of the brothers, Peter and Dennis Flocas. The brothers ran the Golden Age Café at the top end of Bourke Street near Spring Street which was opened during the the First World War.They like many young Ithacan men migrated to Melbourne in the early decades of the twentieth century. Edith Sarah Pickford was born and raised in Clunes, Victoria. She is the only daughter of John Pickford and Betsey (Robbins) Pickford and sister of Henry Pickford, John Pickford, William Harold Pickford, Horace Pickford DCM, Arthur Pickford and Charles Alexander Pickford. [ Research by Edith;s granduaghter Jane Dyer (nee Chatham)] Edith's maternal grandmother was a descendent of Donald Cameron, the first recorded European settler in the Clunes area.The Pickford family's pioneer settler legacy in the Clunes- Glendaruel district is commemorated with a Pickford Road and displays in the Clunes Museum. A collection of Edith's song music was donated to the Clunes Museum by her great grand-daughter in 2023. Edith married a local farmer, Henry Smerdon Holmes from "Sauchieburn" Ascot, Victoria. Henry was a descendant of the family who had inherited their maternal ancestor's, Catherine Coghill (nee Holmes), Ascot - Coghills Creek property. This branch of the Coghill Family descended from the district's pioneer settler, Captain Coghill. Edith and Henry spent all their married life, and raised 4 children Jack [John], Bill [William], [Mary] Elizabeth and David, at Ascot. She was buried in the Coghills Creek Cemetery with her husband, Henry Smerdon Holmes, and their son, David, in 1967. Mid-length shift dress in light grey-blue. Dress consists of two breast pockets, each with rounded flap closure held in place by two press studs. Dress is fastened down centre with three silver buttons held in place with a metal ring (only two buttons remain). From waist line down, dress is fastened by a hidden zipper and hook and eye. Waist line is pleated and carries two loops on the back, through which a fabric belt (0030.2) is threaded. Two fabric loops on each shoulder may have been used to hold epaulettes or similar. Dress sleeves are rolled up by 40 mm. Collar is notched. Interior label on left side at waist height reads "IYD CLO CO/VIC./8410-66-000-000/SIZE 18/ARMY NO........../NAME............"

This outfit from Sydney-based wearables label Iordanes Spyridon Gogos (ISG), was designed by Founder and Creative Director Jordan Gogos in collaboration with Akira Isogawa and other creative partners. The outfit comes from the ISG x Akira 2023 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) collection show presented at Carriageworks, Sydney 16 May 2023. Jordan Gogos is one of Australia's most innovative multidisciplinary artists. Preferring to describe his current designs as 'non normative', 'wearables for the imaginative' Gogos' work and practices have been influential in changing the conversation around clothing design, production and presentation by embedding co-collaboration, sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity in all aspects of his label. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan before immigrating to Australia in 1987, Akira Isogawa is regarded as one of Australia's most innovative and successful fashion designers. In a career spanning over 25 years, Akira is perhaps best known for his contemporary interpretations of traditional Japanese clothing, and the quality of his craftsmanship. Isogawa has worked on a range of creative collaboration projects over the course of his career and was named Australian Designer of the Year at the Australian Fashion Industries Awards in 1999. The ISG x Akira collection show presented at AAFW resulted in a collection of 40 looks featuring digitally printed, compressed and patchworked garments with applique, embroidery, beading and origami. Made from deadstock and archival fabrics, accessorised with unique headpieces and footwear designs, the looks were presented in a theatrical collection show amid a colourful runway piled high with upcycled textile artworks and trojan horses signifying Gogo's Greek heritage, signed by Akira in red calligraphy. By the 19th century, porcelain had become the favored material for doll heads, and starting in the 1830s, high-quality china dolls hit the market. Most of these were made in central Europe, and often the assembly work was done by individual families, which is why many antique china dolls are not marked. German-made china dolls usually have black molded hair and blue eyes. Frank Wright was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and was awarded a gold medal for the highest marks in the ALCM examinations in the British Colonies at the age of seventeen years. He became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. James Albon, far right, built a bowling green at his home on the corner of Mont Albert Road and Wilson Street (later occupied by the convent). This green was so popular with his friends that he organised the formation of a bowling club at the corner of Montrose and Wilson Streets. Mr John Kendrick Blogg, wearing the white hat, is standing in the doorway. Earliest club records date from 1916. This was the original club-house; it was rebuilt in 1922/23 using interlocking blocks as recommended by Walter Burley-Griffin. This was quite an innovative design at the time. In turn cream brick buildings replaced this building in the 1950s. The Surrey Hills Bowls Club disbanded in 1995. Our original is framed copy donated by the Surrey Hills Bowls Club (with a spare copy and negative). Someone from the club has the original. Thre is also a frames portrait of James Albon the 1st president in the collection. (NB/ Duplicate = 1813; No.1943 is from the Bowling Club).
